I swear Luna should be some kind of tracking dog.  She has been bugging me NON STOP all day (while I try to work from home) about *something* under the couch.  I looked and looked and couldn't see anything.  I finally gave up and moved the couch to let her look for herself... lo and behold there is a 1/2" piece of a blue corn tortilla chip under there.  Whining ALL DAY for a tiny piece of corn chip.

I thought it was over but she kept after the couch... so I moved the couch clear across the room.  This couch is a 3-seater leather couch with 2 reclining parts it is NOT light.

Lo and behold what do I find trapped between some of the metal struts...  (Sorry for the blurry picture she won't stop jiggling with joy):

She is now parading around squeaking her prize and wagging her tail.  She is probably also thinking I'm really stupid for taking all day to figure out what it was.

Does your doodle have a good sniffer?

LOL! JD says "Surely Luna's mom doesn't think we would lower ourselves to whining all day over a measly corn chip crumb! Now a tennis ball is a whole other thing entirely!"

She had about 5 other balls around in the room including another squeaky one.  Apparently that particular ball was of utmost importance though!

JD is also very discriminating about balls. He will go around the room sniffing at least half a dozen before choosing one. I have no idea what criteria he uses. :)

LOL....I love this story!  He needs to be "working for a living"...maybe a drug sniffing Doodle.  In our house Guinness is the one with the nose, but he can squeeze his little body into most places to get whatever crumbs he smells.  He also uses this ability to take the balls and bring them under our bed where Murph can't get them.  There is usually a stash under the bed.  Murph has problems with long term memory, so he'll object for the first minute or two and then he forgets they're there.

I'm sure that ball has been there for weeks (maybe even months?) but TODAY had to be the day that she recovered it... who knows why. Silly dog.

LOL, I love this story! She should be doing nose work or search and rescue! Or does she only rescue tennis balls? LOL

Tara locates items that need to be "rescued" but she is not nearly as animated. She just stands and stares in the general direction, looks at me and goes back to staring and so it goes until I start moving furniture!  You just have to love those doodle noses!

When she was a puppy we used to play "hide and seek" games with her using her nose to find one of us ;)  She also likes to find balls under the snow in the Winter.  If she's playing with her friends and we lose a ball to deep snow she's always the one to find it!

You call that a nose? LOL! You should have a half beagle/half basset. Now that's a nose! Our Suzy is the typical hound and her whole world is all about smelling and sniffing. Nose to the ground at all times, following some kind of trail. As far as our Doodle, she just has "regular smelling ability".

I bet!  One of the reasons I didn't want a beagle :p  Impossible to distract them once they're on a scent from what I've heard.

Well, we can distract our beagle/bassett with food. That trumps a scent anyday! Suzy never tried to get out of the yard to follow a scent so I guess we were fortunate with that. She's quite lazy and trying to escape would have been too much of a chore. One day she got out the front door and proceeded to run up the street. It was like 100 degrees that day. About 3 houses up, she decided her "trip" was way more trouble than she thought and she came running home, panting. She's short legged (the bassett in her) and her tongue was practically dragging the ground from the heat. We couldn't help but laugh. She spent the rest of the day in the a/c.

When it comes to balls, Luca will do the same thing as Luca. This is why balls have been banished inside.

Good for Luna.  She has you well-trained. :-}
