Well, my Midwest part of the country has just started it's first time this year for extreme heat. Looking at the forecast, it doesn't appear to have any rain for the next 10 days - and mid nineties. I think this is my least favorite time of the year. July and August in Missouri are hot and humid. I don't know how all of you in the southeast deal with it!
This means that I will need to drive to the shaded trail nearby instead of taking Zoey around the neighborhood. Since it is mostly gravel, we can't go as fast - don't want to twist an ankle! I take water for her in a K-9 mug and take more breaks. She seems to be more "hot natured" then my previous dog, and Lucky was black! We also go in the morning. Even in the evening here it doesn't cool off much, so I would probably need to wait till sundown to take an evening walk.
I was just wondering what kind of things all of you did to give your dog more exercise in this heat. (Don't have a treadmill for her. lol)
We do training exercises that help, but the dog park is out too - all sunny. Why are all the neighborhood sidewalks on the sunny side of the street?!!

We play ball indoors... I make them work harder by throwing the ball downstairs! :-)
We also do "find it" games- put them in a sit/stay in another part of the house, hide a treat and make them find it. "Nose work" tires them out almost as good as physical exercise...
Great! I'll try the "nose work". That sounds like she would enjoy it. We already play ball, but didn't think about throwing it downstairs..
We do these games too! So much fun. I also do hide & seek with mine...great time.
