Starlit has started to do something new and I wonder if other dogs do this strange behavior.

She picks up one LITTLE stuffed toy--only this little stuffed groundhog and carries it around while whimpering or maybe like a high-pitched talking.   It reminds me of a mother cat talking to her kittens as she moves them to a new safer bed.

Is she pretending she is a mother?  She doesn't seem upset but she looks like she wants to put it somewhere safe or nest with the little toy.

Anyone else witness this?  I wish I knew what she wanted.  She seems kind of desperate.

Halas does this with his little stuffed toys, especially the ones that come in the Hide-A-Whatever toys. He'll carry them all over the house looking for a safe place. He'll go to an area where he doesn't normally go, leave them in there, and then come out like nothing has happened. He seems to want to be sure that I don't know where he put them. But he only lasts about 10 minutes before he goes back to that room, and comes back out with the toys again. He'll also try to get 2 or 3 in his mouth at a time. He doesn't make a lot of noise, but he does whimper a little bit.
That's so sweet! :)
Ned grabs a toy and the way I would describe the sound is chortling. He prances quickly around. This usually happens when I am laying in bed or sitting on the couch with my laptop. I used to think it was cute, but now it is annoying because he will not settle. He doesn't want attention or petting.......
Annoying and alarming! Yes Nancy. This started a few nights ago. I have a cold so I am up more often in the night. Starlit hears me tip-toeing around and wakes up. She's really been doing this about 4am!

Glad everyone let me know. I'm thinking she is becoming a vocal dog--which is great. My last dog I did teach to talk and say OUT, MOMA, LOVE YOU. Out would be just fine with me.
Clancy is very vocal - he moans, groans in a talking kind of way. He does this while playing - sometimes with a toy and sometimes without. He often rolls on his side or back and vocalizes. This is very sweet and endearing - unlike Ned's prancing on our bodies while chortling.
That sounds soooooooo adorable!
Think of that Travelers Insurance commercial with the dog trying to find a safe place for his bone - its to the song "Trouble..." LOL Maybe Starlit could be featured in their next commercial!!
