Well I think most of you know our problem with Chewie's resource guarding...have been working on that and are proud of his progress...BUT, he is being such a brat!  When he wants our attention he barks at us (like we understand doggie talk) and when that doesn't work he jumps at us and bites at our clothes.  Of course, that often results in getting a little skin in between those teeth also.  I know he isn't being aggresive at all...just going all out to get our attention.  During this behavior he gets very excited and exuberant, so giving him a command to calm him down is usually useless.  If I can grab him I can usually get him to sit and calm down, but that is easier said than done.  Any move toward him he interprets as play...yeah, let's chase Chewie...he loves it.  He is starting to do this more and more.  It doesn't matter if he has been at daycare that day or not, so not because of lack of exercise.

I have read Adina mentioning Roscoe's biting so much his first year...if you're reading this, was it this type of behavior or something else?

As usual, all comments and suggestions welcome and appreciated.

Again, thanks for all the responses...obviously there is no easy or quick solution. I used to always have his leash on in the house...was definitely a lifesaver many times. I'll have to go back to that. As far as timeouts, the behavioral vet we are using for the resource guarding said a dog will never understand the concept of a timeout...it's more of a break for me, but when he is acting like this and I'm cooking dinner, I need that break for a few minutes. It may not have a long term effect on his behavior, but at least it sometimes calms him down. I will definitely try some sort of sudden, loud noise...haven't tried that yet, but have my doubts...he isn't scared of much...LOL.

Anyway, I have a feeling that, like so many other puppy behaviors, patience until he outgrows some of this is going to be my best friend. Let's see...he's 10 months - we're getting there. : )
I agree our Doodles don't get the concept of "time out"....but it does give us a break and gives them a chance to calm down. Sometimes we just need that.
Last night we tried the coin thing. Peri would not stop barking that high-pitched bark at Taquito. She only wanted attention and Taquito had an antler (one of MANY, again). DH shook an aluminum H20 bottle with 5 or 6 coins at her and she ran from him. That was at about 7pm - not one more annoying bark all night. Maybe we are on to something...
