Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi Everyone :) Ok, this is a randome question for DoodleKisses but know everyone on here is an dog lover and I know lots of us, besides having doodles, also have other dog breeds. So I'm hoping someone can help us. Our English Bulldog, Roxie, she has very badly infected eye folds. It's always been red and we always clean the location and use a baking soda paste to get rid of the redness, but this is the first time it's ever been this infected. It actually started bleeding. I'm thinking of calling our vet tomorrow to see what they suggest, but does anyone know any home remedies to help the redness and infection?

Way back in the olden days, we used moistened tea bags on rescued kitten's gunky eyes. I'm not recommending anything, but it was the first thing that came to my mind. Please do an internet search on how to use it correctly, if you do.
But............... a vet really should be consulted for eye infections, ASAP!!!!
With just a very quick internet search I came up with pages of links. Here are just a few. These really seem to be for conjunctivitis but I'm hearing you say it is a skin infection so I'm not sure this will be of any help:

Thank you Joanne :) I will check these out right now.
Corn starch may be good for healthy maintenance but I would question putting something like this on an open wound. It seems to me it would gunk up and keep the bacteria in, instead of the blood cleaning the raw area?
Dunno. Just my thoughts.
At this time, I would put on Bacitracin or some type of antibiotic ointment now that the skin has broken.
I agree 100% Joanne. I wouldn't be putting corn starch or anything else on an infected eyelid, particularly with broken skin. It needs to be seen by a vet.
Interesting. I used corn starch to stop the bleeding when I cut Sophie's quick (Kwik?) by accident. I didn't have any "Kwik Stop" so did a google search and learned that this would work, and it sorta did, but I would imagine Kwik Stop is better.
Yes, but a nail isn't the same as the sensitive skin around an eye, and the nail wasn't infected. :)
Absolutely right. Not a good idea.
Thank you :) My mother lives in town so I just sent her out to get Roxie corn starch.
If the area is infected you should go to the vet ASAP and get an prescription. I wouldn't fool around with bleeding, infected eye folds.
It's hard to tell whether this is a bacterial or fungal problem, which might be likely given moist skin folds. But now it needs treatment although there may be home remedies to help prevent it in the future.
