Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I took Lan to the park today and she did great. She was very happy and met lots of dogs, including another Labradoodle who looked nothing like her! I'm guesssing it wasn't an ALD as it looked completely different, bone structure wasn't even the same, and wasn't at all friendly. I don't see many labradoodles and it made me realize just how vastly they can differ in appearance and temperment wise. Also, it was kind of funny because for some odd reason a lot of people ask me if Lan is a standard poodle... I don't even think she looks like a poodle. Do other labradoodle owners get this question a lot?

I bet that p***** them off! :o)
I'll bet you're right!!
Jarka, that is funny because we had Bedlington Terriers for over 30 years and people always thought they were poodles (or lambs) and I even kept them groomed like Bedlingtons! Now that we have our mini golden doodle, she has been mistaken for a Bedlington Terrier on 3 separate occasions!! Crazy!
lol this is really interesting, and now seeing what a purebred poodle can look like naturally, I can see the similarities. I love my Lani girl and she's so friendly and loving. I still think she's part kangaroo though, lol.
Cute! I think my Bailey is part bunny!
Yup...she is my "bunny girl".
People always ask me if Soph is a Portuguese Water Dog and occasionally a Bearded Collie. surprisingly, no one has said poodle yet. The questions we get about our Weimaraner are the best though. Most people have no clue what she is and if the do the vast majority of the time they butcher the pronunciation. I kind of like it when people guess what they are, because regardless of what they say it is always followed with a "they are so beautiful!". Makes me a proud momma :)
No chance of people asking if Luna is a poodle ;) We do get Nova Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever (duck toller) a lot though.
It makes sense that any doodle could be confused for a poodle and a stocky poodle confused for a doodle. They do look very similar, especially when shaved. I saw a mini goldendoodle today at the park that was very skinny with long limbs and was shaved - she looked JUST like a moyen poodle. I find that most poodle owneers keep their dogs' coats fairly short, whereas doodle owners often let the hair grow a bit more for that "Shaggy" look, so that's usually one way to tell.
Daisy is an F1B Goldendoodle & I always get the "she is beautiful, what kind of dog is she, a poodle?" typically they have the question mark because they know she is not totally a poodle but depending on her groom she can look a lot like one or less like one. Here is her Dad the Standard Poodle "Obadiah"(I think he looks like a sporting dog, not a poodle, but his sport is not hunting) and Daisy both poodlely and not.
It doesn't offend me I find it interesting that they are not quite sure. Before I knew about doodles I would have the same questions. Growing up we always had toy poodles, kept them in what we called a puppy cut, they looked just like a lot of our ALD doodles.
