I'm looking for something that will help with the ticks. My puppy is 6mo old, was vaccinated but got Lyme disease anyway. She is brown and it is really hard to find the ticks on her. A friend told me recently that they used to use a Tick-Clip that attached to the dog's collar. The reviews are mixed. Have any of you guys used them? I found two different kinds online. Does anyone know of a different one or something that can be used with Advantix to prevent ticks?

Obviously, the ticks have very good taste. :)

What about K9 Advantix or Frontline Plus. We use Frontline plus for Sonny but I am worried about there being more ticks out this year and am considering switching to K9 Advantix b/c it states it also repels them. Any thoughts?

We use K9 Advantix II the vet said it is the strongest tick product available. He said he only recommends Frontline if you have cats. The vet said it repels them and kills them when they begin to feed on the dog. This does seem to be true. I have found large dead ticks on the floor and sometimes they are attached and dead. Not sure how much it is repelling the ticks. I'm sure if we didn't use it she would get even more ticks.

I am also on a weimaraner forum for Sophie's sister Jade and I was reading about this on there the other day.  He said he uses apple cider vinegar in their water to prevent ticks.  This isn't the first time I have heard him mention it and he swears by it.  I have never personally used this method, but if I was having a tick problem and getting desperate I would certainly give it a shot!  Here is the link so you can see the directions he gives for it:

Good luck!  If you try it let me know how it works :)

There are people advocating apple cider vinegar for everything imaginable, but it's all hokum. It doesn't work. His dog hasn't gotten ticks for the same reason my dog hasn't gotten ticks. It's just luck. There is nothing special about apple cider vinegar. As I mentioned above, I used nothing on my last dog for fleas or ticks, and she never got them for 14.5 years... until she did. So for 14 and a half years I could have sworn by using nothing.

Fair enough.  Like I said, I have never tried it.  The regular monthly application has been enough for me, so I haven't looked much beyond that.
