Does anyone have any recommendations to prevent ticks?  We were outside at the park last night and I pulled 5 ticks off my schnauzer.  We give all three Trifexis, but I'm wondering if there is anything additional I could use to keep the ticks away.  I think this year must be especially bad.

eeks!  I use advantix which is good for ticks and fleas.

I used to use Frontline Plus but switched to Advantix II since it repels them. Frontline products are great but I just didn't like that they didn't do the job until after the pup had gotten bit :(

I forget why but I am not a fan of Trifexes ....I believe it can bring out seizures in dogs that have a propensity toward the, but since I can't remember don't hold me to it......

I do see of the Trifexis commercials that it can take up to three mo ths for it to work against something , perhaps it was ticks? How long have they been on it? My memory is crap right now..aorry

They actually haven't had any problems with the Trifexis.  Looking at the box it doesn't say anything about ticks just fleas.  I was hoping there was something that I could either clip to their collar or spray to repel the ticks.  I wasn't sure if using Advantix or Frontline would be too much with the Trifexis.  It is really starting to gross me out since I found one on my scalp last night.  Yuk!

YES IT would be too much to add advanix or frontline with Trifexis.. the specifically say that on the commercial....

I remember more clearly now.. Some of the dogs on here had trouble with Trifexis... I will look for the links to it but stink at searching... Some had seizures some had lethargy .... My mom used it on her puppy until I made her switch but she never had any problems.... I would be careful with a spray too because if you spray something on their fur in a spot their tongue can reach it can poison them.

If you put a collar on your dog, your dog is going to be stuck inhaling those fumes.. it can hurt the airway......either your dogs or anyone who breathes it in that has a sensitive airway

I feel so accomplished.. I found the link.... if you want to see more just go to the search part in the top right corner and you will see all the issues people had. I hope I am not coming across as a pain in the butt, just wanting to share information.

I use the preventic collar, I have for 2 yrs now, and haven't seen one tic...It is not a fea and tic collar, Just a tic collar.

My vet recommended Parastar Plus which kills ticks in as little as one hour.  It also kills fleas and chewing lice also.  It's given once a month between the shoulder blades.  I have also researched online about ways to keep ticks away in the first place and they recommend a 50/50 solution of water and apple cider vinegar.  Spray that all over your dog before heading out.  I also heard of lemon juice mixture.  Ticks are nasty!!!
