Thanks for posting. I will be interested in what others feel about this. I felt a bit guilty for continuing to immunize my guys. My vet has limited them to a 3 year schedule for everything but Bordetella - we don't have Lyme disease here.
I'm not sure if it is normal or not, but last year we Titered both girls. AnnaBelle who was two had to have her shots as the immunity was not yet built up.
My Vet recommends the three year protocol for most dogs. I did push her to do titers on Guinness once and the results showed he did still need to be vaccinated. Based on this article, there is a case to vaccinate regardless of the results of the blood test. He is due this month, and I'll likely skip the titer and just have him vaccinated. Murph will be another story because he has two auto immune diseases...we will likely titer and then have to make a decision at that point.
I do the 3 year plus the Bordetella and Lyme yearly. I feel more comfortable with that than doing titers. But if I had young kids, I would be a pro vax mommy, so I guess it would reason I am with Annabelle.
My dog (Hondo) was titered and could not have any injections because he had liver disease. The vet said no shots and he could not even have rabies. You do need to have the titers done every few years. Yes, we vaccinate our dogs too much.
