Today is the first of 3 days at CanAm, a huge flyball tournament in Indianapolis. Our team has 4 races today, but Halas only ran in the first 4, so he's done for the day. He ran 5 heats in the first race, but took a very long pause between jumps on his 4th run, so we decided to only have him run 3 heats in his other 2 races. That worked out well. Our last tournament was in early June, so it's been awhile since he ran. He was pretty slow a couple of times, but his runs were clean, and that's what we were hoping for. On one run, the box loader forgot to load his ball, and he just stopped and stared at her when she told him to get his ball. She looked down, cussed, and loaded his ball. So he grabbed it and came back, just like he's supposed to. All in all, a good first day of racing for him. Now he can start resting up for tomorrow and Sunday.

By the way, we've seen several discussions about pit bulls and other bully breeds. There's a team here made up entirely of bully breeds. They formed the team to prove that the breeds are highly trainable and can be great dogs. They just need the right owners. Their team runs well, and I've never heard of any problems with other dogs or people. They are just like any other dog here. It shows what a dig can be when treated with love and respect.

Typo - Halas ran in 3 races, not 4.

Halas my hero!! I TOLD you!! LOL!!!

I love the idea of the team composed of the bully breeds! Great idea!  Good luck this weekend!!!

Good luck to Leslie and Halas!  And I love the idea of the "bully" team!
Way to go Halas and Leslie!!!!!  This sounds like a really exciting weekend.
Leslie, thanks for this update. It sounds like an awesome time and I'm hoping I can do something like this with Sadie when she's older. I hope you'll take some videos like you did last year. And thanks for the news about the bully-breed team--it's nice to know there are smart ambassadors for those breeds out there, showing people that it's the owner that makes all the difference. Good luck to you and Halas!!!

WTG, Halas!

That's good to hear about the pitbull team, too.

Run Halas Run! WTG.
Go Halas!   What a fun weekend for both of you!   Have a blast!   Would love to see pics!
I'd love to see videos of this, it sounds like Halas did just great.
Good luck, Leslie and Halas!! Make us proud :)
2nd day has begun! Halas ran twice in our first race, and he did well.  We're planning to run him 2 heats in every race today. I haven't been very good this summer about keeping his stamina up, so 2 runs in 4 races, plus all of the excitement, will be enough for him.

On a down note, someone from a North Carolina team had their truck stolen this morning with their dog inside. We always wonder how much our dogs are worth. How much would we be willing to spend if they needed some medical procedure. Think about how much we spend on our cars, buying and maintaining them. What would you be more worried
about if this happened to you? Your dog or your car?
Keep up the good work! It would be no contest between my dog and my van. I would pick my dogs. This makes me sick. I hope they find the dog. Keep us posted.
