Wally had a restful night. The vet prescribed Tramadol for pain, which seems to be doing the trick. Usually, this is given in combination with an NSAID, but since Rimadyl caused damage to his liver (His liver recovered (hooray!), which is why the surgery was able to happen yesterday.), she felt it best to stay away from all related drugs and limit his medication to Tramadol. He seems to be without pain, but still very tired.

We have to feed him soft food for two weeks, while his mouth heals. Interestingly, she said to stick with his current food (Acana), but to soak it in chicken stock until it is soft. Also, he cannot play with any toys at all for two weeks, while the extraction site mends and the stitches dissolve. This means that Charlotte be without toys, as well.

Also, the canine dentist removed a very small lump that was under the skin on Wally's chest, while he was under anesthesia. We discovered this several months ago while brushing him. We will get the results of the pathology tests in a week or so. Both our regular vet and the dentist felt that it was benign, but that since it could change over time, so it was best to be proactive and have it removed.

Thanks, again, for all of your thoughtful wishes for Wally's wellbeing. It's so nice to know that we have friends out there in DK cyberspace :o)

Original post:  We are leaving soon to bring Wally to the oral surgeon to have his broken molar extracted. While I trust the canine dentist completely, the procedure will most likely take three hours. It is certainly going to be a long day. Right now, though, all Wally is concerned about is the fact that he has not been given breakfast. I haven't told him about the appointment yet. I will try to report back later in the day. In the meantime, please keep him in your thoughts, and keep those antlers (elk, deer, moose) away from your precious doodles' mouths.

Thank you for the update. Take care of your adorable patient and hopefully, everything will be back to normal soon.

He is pretty cute, isn't he?!  He's been a really good patient, too.
