Ruby is ten weeks old.....when is this puppy stage over exactly??? lol she is chewing on everything including the legs of my brand new very expensive table/chairs....enough to send me through the roof and her in the timeout.....im exhausted from this weekend from chasing after her and finding new things ruined. i so badly want to take her on a very long walk to get some of this energy out but shes still too young....just got that bitter apple stuff is it safe for painted wood???? any ideas to tire her out?? thanks
Get the dog. Then get the furniture.....in that order. Empty house, puppy, wait til she is grown, then buy the stuff to put in the house. LOL
There are sprays you can buy to spray on wood so they wont chew it. Give her lots of 100% digestible rawhide chews (as opposed to the non digestible dangerous kind) Kongs, pigs ears etc.... At this age it is all about redirecting their chewing need.
She may still need to be confined to the room where you are. My puppy is 15 weeks and I still do that with the portable baby gates so that I can watch and correct him immediately when he starts to chew something he shouldn't. I then give him one of his toys, and he now knows the difference. This is kind of a pain, but it has worked. We haven't lost anything but one flip flop which I accidently left out. They need to chew, especially while they are teething, and right now they just aren't sure what is okay and what isn't. To tire Guinness out when we couldn't walk, we played lots of games of "fetch". We also played a game where he would chase me around the house and then I would chase him. He loved it and after 15 or 20 minutes of this he was ready to sleep for a while.
Sprays didn't work for Peri. What worked was constant supervision. She is 20 weeks and we still keep her confined to the general area where we hang out most at home (baby gate). She is pretty much grown out of her chewing kick and knows to chew her toys and treats. Bully sticks are our new "babysitter" for the dogs! If she does veer off and chew something, we say "leave it" and put a toy in her mouth. It will get better!!!
When our "Chewie" was chewing everything...we kept him in an ex pen if we were not in the same room with him . Try Bully sticks, flossies or kongs. I agree with walks to tire him out as well! It does get better!
