Update and Lola's ears.....

Just an update...Grady Boy is still taking his meds for Lyme Disease, and gladly I might add with cheese of course! Had to take Lola Doodle back to vets office, she has a double ear infection!!!! Am wondering if this is a puppy thing or a doodle thing??? Ive never had a dog that has had an ear infection before so I am curious. Also can you believe that in the 4 days between her vet visits...SHE GAINED 4 POUNDS!!!! Mommas baby is growing soooooo fast!!!!!

Doodles are prone to ear infections. Floppy ears are a "great" place of bacteria and yeast to thrive. Keeping the fur cleaned out of their ears and around the opening of her ears as well as washing their ears regularly helps a lot. 

Bentley has fought chronic ear/yeast infections since he was a puppy. So far, we haven't had any with Maserati. I hope this just a one time deal for Miss Lola, but there is a good chance she will have more in her future.

Ive been trying to clean her ears...so far she fights me on it...any suggestions??

Lie her down and lean over her. Fill the ear canal, squish the liquid around by massging the base of her ear.and gently swab it out with cotton squares.Flip her over and do the other side. My doodles tolerate it pretty well, it really doesn't hurt.

Wow....a pound a day!  Lola may be a really big Doodle girl.  Oh those Doodle ears....even with regular cleaning and managing the hair in the ears some Doodles have problems with infections.  Luckily that hasn't been an issue for my two.

Lola lets me brush her no problems there...but is fighting me when I try to clean her ears! I think shes going to be a big girl too!!! Just as long as she don't get too big to keep cuddling with her Momma!! because she gives the best CUDDLES EVER!!!

Off the topic but Jane I noticed on your page that you got Guiness from Grandview in Vt. I got Callie there from Jennifer 2 yrs ago! I don't think she breeds anymore?

I never had a dog with a ear infection until I got my Oliver, he came home from the breeder with both ears infected.  He got them pretty often the first couple of years and now he seems to have out grown them.  My Sasha had a ear infection only once and she is 4+ yrs old.  I think it may be a doodle thing !

I sure hope not..Im hoping its a puppy thing!!! But either way Im going to get a move on her getting used to cleaning her ears! She is used to the drops...so I hope the cleaning will come around too!

Good luck on the ear cleaning.  Libby had ear infections for a long time, and they have only stopped when we figured out she is allergic to animal protein.  However, she HATED getting her ears cleaned.  In fact, once I basically had to hold her down and her mom put the drops in one ear - she bolted away and spent the next 10 minutes rolling around on her head and wiping her ear on the furniture.  Then my friend looked at the ear drops and realized that she had never actually opened them.  Can anyone say drama queen?  It was so funny.......but now we get her ears cleaned every month one of the days she goes to doggie day care.  Works better for everyone that way!
