Yesterday I posted a discussion about my Molly, who had some intestinal upset after a session of doggie day care, and I wondered if it was that or something else that made her sick. She was definitely better by last night (poops firming up!), but this morning she had diarrhea again. The bad news is that we took her into the vet and after testing he found that she has an e.coli gastroenteritis...caused by something that she must have eaten. (Karen...you were right!!) (I don't blame the daycare at all...we live in the country and I suspect that she tasted some half-eaten squirrel or mouse or rabbit that our cats leave on the porch!) She is always getting into something, so who knows what it was.
The good news is that she is on antibiotics and he expects her to make a full recovery. The amazing thing (and moral of this story!) is that last Saturday night I was reading a bunch of discussions here about pet insurance, and I said to my DH "I think I am going to get insurance for Molly." I spent about 2 hours looking into different plans, and I was bleary-eyed and just about to turn off the computer for the night and ponder over them when I thought "might as well just go ahead and do it now since all of this info is fresh on my brain", and right there and then I purchased a policy. It went into effect on Monday. Who would have guessed that 4 days later I would need it!
So tomorrow I plan to submit my first claim. Hopefully, it will go as well as everyone says. Thanks to all of you who recommended it, and hopefully this will be a lesson to those who are on the fence about getting it!

I am so glad you have health insurance. I am even more glad your baby is going to be okay.
Thanks Jennifer!
I'm sorry that Molly has gastroenteritis, but glad you got an answer, and really glad you got that insurance! Hope the meds work quickly and Molly is soon feeling better!
And you were right! Thanks again!
So glad Molly is okay and will feel better with the meds! Great that you got the insurance!!! Don't you just love it when things work out like that?
I never expected to use it this soon....was hoping to never have to use it at all. But, very glad that it worked out that way!
Oh wow Amy! I was the one who started the Health Insurance blog and I am sooooo glad I did. I can't tell you how happy I am that I was able to reach out and save someone a lot of heartache and expense. I don't know what company you went with but I'm sure you can't go wrong with most of them. I am glad that Molly is on medication and won't have any lasting affects from this. Give her a big hug and kiss!
See, it does work, Nancie. It was after Maryann and Roo's post I finally purchased insurance. If just one post can save one member--that is what really matters. Good for you, Nancie. Good for you and your dog, Amy
Thanks Joanne...it IS a good feeling to know I helped someone!!! Yippeee...I hope more people get insurance!
Thank you Nancie...yes, I have been following you and Gracie, and your posts about what you are going through had me thinking about buying it. So glad I did!
I went with Petplan. My DH took her to the vet yesterday (and wasn't sure whether or not I had bought it yet,) so didn't say anything to the vet about having it. I plan to call them on Tuesday to see what documentation I need to file the claim and go from there. Everyone says that the claims go smoothly, so hopefully that will be the case!
