Yesterday I posted a discussion about my Molly, who had some intestinal upset after a session of doggie day care, and I wondered if it was that or something else that made her sick. She was definitely better by last night (poops firming up!), but this morning she had diarrhea again. The bad news is that we took her into the vet and after testing he found that she has an e.coli gastroenteritis...caused by something that she must have eaten. (Karen...you were right!!) (I don't blame the daycare at all...we live in the country and I suspect that she tasted some half-eaten squirrel or mouse or rabbit that our cats leave on the porch!) She is always getting into something, so who knows what it was.
The good news is that she is on antibiotics and he expects her to make a full recovery. The amazing thing (and moral of this story!) is that last Saturday night I was reading a bunch of discussions here about pet insurance, and I said to my DH "I think I am going to get insurance for Molly." I spent about 2 hours looking into different plans, and I was bleary-eyed and just about to turn off the computer for the night and ponder over them when I thought "might as well just go ahead and do it now since all of this info is fresh on my brain", and right there and then I purchased a policy. It went into effect on Monday. Who would have guessed that 4 days later I would need it!
So tomorrow I plan to submit my first claim. Hopefully, it will go as well as everyone says. Thanks to all of you who recommended it, and hopefully this will be a lesson to those who are on the fence about getting it!

Poor girl! Glad that she is receiving treatment and hope she recovers quickly. Good job with the insurance!!
Wow, great timing with the insurance. You would have been so upset with yourself if you hadn't done it yet. I'm glad that you know what's wrong with Molly....and that she's on the road to recovery.
I know...I would have kicked myself if I hadn't bought it when I did. Her vet bill was not that big, but every little bit helps and who knows what she'll get her big black nose into in the future! Thanks, Jane!
I am so glad you found the cause of your pup's issues and she is on the road to recovery. We have health insurance and every so often I think I should just cancel it since they are both healthy. It is posts like these that change my mind! Get well soon, Molly!
