Hi,
I was always against letting Jack use pee pee pads in the house. I never left him long enough that he couldn't hold it, if I did we had a dog walker come. But to this day, Jack is going to be six, he can not hold his urine through the night.
When I was in Boston for the several months, my mom always got up with him once if not twice a night and leashed him up and took him potty. In my home he has peed consistently on a throw rug, that has a rubber mat. Luckily for me it very seldom leaks through to my new hard wood floors.
He has been checked out and I mean the bizzilion dollar work up. He just can't hold it for some reason. I bought washable pee pads at Pet smart today it is kind of like a rug. but it is very rubber backing to it so he won't leak through to the other side.
My question is how do I "tell him" that this is where I want him to pee. I put it on top of the throw mat which is by the front door but I don't think he gets it, I eventually after he pee's on it for a while would like to move it to my bathroom in my bedroom so if I come home with a guest ( have a new BF) we don't walk into pee…. He never poops in the house.
Any suggestions from you experienced dog owners?

My dd's tiny dog cannot hold it through the night which makes it no fun when we dog sit - she pees and poos. I think pee pads will be something I suggest to her. I will be interested to see how you train an adult dog to use them.
So the advice I have gotten so far is to put the pad down over the area the dog usually goes, which I did. I just cleaned up with a rag this morning a spot where he missed the carpet and I put the rag over the pee pee pad. I keep walking him over there and telling him it is okay to go Potty there…… I can only hope, he always goes in the same spot but it is usually on a carpet but I pulled the throw rug up.
If he goes potty there at night I am going to leave the pad there again probably for a few nights, then slowly move it to my bathroom .. knowing Jack he will just go back to the front door where he always goes potty, its just that is not an ideal spot since its by the front door…..
my mom's dog can hold it 10 hours… but Jack just can't, never ever could. I will let you know if it works, heres to hope…
Ned is a little bigger than Jack (27-28 pounds), but he also has a bladder of steel. Lucky me! :-}
Yeah Molly is 24 pounds and bladder of steel too..
thanks, I have a rag on there from this mornings spill over, my guy is little weighing about 17 pounds so he doesn't pee much…. Thanks for your helpful hints….
Well night one was a fail… My dear dog didn't want to pee on the pad that was covering the run so instead he jumped on my head and barked at me two times to let him go out to potty, no potty in the house but interrupted sleep is the pitts.
Round 2 tonight
Congratulations!
