Vet recommended Glucosamine

My Vet suggested giving my 75 lbs, 15 month old Doodle, 1500 mg per day of glucosamine.  My boy is healthy.  I thought that seemed like a high dosage and thought he seemed young to need this supplement.  what are you thoughts and if you use a supplement, what kind do you use.

It seems like a high dosage to me, too, given your dog's size, age and health. JD is 12.5 years old, weighs approx. 70 lbs, and does have osteoarthritis as well as a herniated lumbar disc. His orthopedic specialist recommended Cosequin DS. He gets 2 capsules per day for a total of 1000 mg glucosamine and 800 mg chondroitin.
