Vinny has been trying to throw-up....I think he swallowed something yesterday! He keeps
gagging w/ no luck. I'm just hoping whatever it is he will digest. Hopefully it's not a candy
wrapper from Halloween or a wire bread tie! He seems to get those!! Do you think I should take
him to the vet? Have him x-rayed????

I would call your Vet NOW....let him decide...
Call the vet, they can do a barium treatment so that they can see where the blockage is.
I'm calling now! Thankx guys!
Good decision, but wanted to let you know my breeder shared info with me awhile back. They gave their Doodle a Hydrogen Peroxide syringe full to induce vomiting. He had swallowed a toy! This is what their vet told them to do immediately, and it worked! Good luck.
I have used the hydrogen peroxide trick also. They throw up very quickly.....
Have a friend who used the hydrogen peroxide mixed with peanut butter...works great on things like Grapes, something ingested that could be brought back up with no harm, but if the dog had a wire bread tie I don't think that would be good to have the dog bring back up, could get lodged in its throat and do more damage, and if it gets into the intestines it could puncture them.
I have been there twice. Hope you called the vet. Winston had surgery the first time, he got a sock and it had folded over on it self and couldn't pass. He was almost 5 months old. The second time he was 8 months, no surgery but almost, he passed the sock. It can be very scary. Sometimes you don't want them to throw up, object could get stuck, and then you have a more serious emergency.
OK, well the vet didn't think he had swallowed anything! He heard the cough (gag) when we were there and
asked if he was around any new dogs.....we had a new labradoodle puppy here on Sunday but they only spent like
2 minutes together? My parents had their labradoodle puppy here on Sat morning for quite some time.....I already talked
w/ the new puppy's mom and she said she isn't coughing or sneezing at all???? Need to call my mom also.....
He also said it could be trauma from his new choke collar!! GEEZ I feel like an aweful mommy :( So anyways.....he gave me some atibiotics and told me to give it to him. We shall see.....
On the choke collar issue, metal choke collars can easily cause small fractures in a puppy's larynx and you would have no way of knowing it. It's much safer to use a martingale collar or even a prong collar (for leash use only) rather than the choke collar. If pulling is an issue, you might also try Gentle Leader harness.
can u believe I could have actually fractured his larynx!!!!! This is terrible! I just kinda left the vet
going??? ok, is it a cough from infection or damage? He was very layed back about the larynx issue
like it was common. I would have never even bought that thing if I knew I could hurt him! Poor little
Vinny :(
I used them for 25 years, on puppies and small dogs, before I learned about this when I adopted Jack. Don't beat yourself up about it.
I do wish the vet had given you a more specific answer. Hopefully, the antibiotics will clear up the problem and Vinny will feel better very soon!
I actually tried a choke and the coughing from that or even a regular collar was worrisome. I've been very happy with the prong collars I use and the dogs do great on them.
