Hi Victoria,
You might try searching here: http://doodlerescuecollective.ning.com/
All the posting from petfinder are listed here, by region. Also contact your local rescue organizations, and don't forget craigslist! Good luck in finding a doodle for your Dad!
In addition to the above, have your father fill out an application with IDOG Rescue ( it is an all doodle rescue organization with foster homes around the USA) -- the website is: http://idog.biz/IDOGRRR.html -- don't wait till the right dog shows up in their listings, fill out the application BEFORE so your father gets notified of a dog before it is listed for the public.
Yes, isn't that a lame excuse for getting rid of a dog- "she's too big"? What did they think she would be like, a pomeranian? I would take her in a heartbeat if my husband wouldn't kill me for getting another dog!
I want the one in RI The bigger the better when it comes to dogs. I wrote them. We will see. Opps I did not see that the origninal post was from RI. Sorry. I will pull my request until they contact you first. Didn't mean to interfere , I just feel for this sweetie.
How wonderful Roger and Joanne!! Spud would have a fun buddy!!
I hope you 2 get her!!! Cricket might be too much dog for a person in their 70's.
Keeping our paws crossed for you !!
Victoria...that labradoodle someone posted that's in RI sounds great! I know everyone is different at 70 y.o....but does your dad want a high energy dog or would he do better with a low maintenance, mellow one? Just asking as even at 2 y.o. some doodles are energizer bunnies!
Victoria, you may also want to do a search here on DK for "shedding", "allergies", etc. Up to 70% of doodles are NOT allergy friendly and do shed to some degree. I know this is not what you've heard in the media, but it's a fact. Your dad might be better off with a smaller poodle or poodle mix dog who will be playful and guaranteed not to shed, but easier to handle. The standard doodles are very strong and do need quite a bit of exercise, even when older.
Also - many people are allergic to the saliva and not the dander. I'm allergic to both and without my daily medications would have a reaction. My Max doesn't shed either. Some doodles do.
