Hello all! I'm just curious how much other doodles are weighing in at 16 weeks? Teddy weighs around 5-6lbs and will be 16 weeks Thursday.

Teddy is TINY! The experts suggest that you double the 16 week weight and add or subtract a few pounds.  That means Teddy might weigh about 10 pounds fully grown.   Ned  is a mini who weighs 28-29 pounds. At 16 weeks, he weighed about 12-14 pounds.  He reached maturity at about 8-9  months and has kept his weight since then.

Belle is a mini who is almost 3 years old and consistently weighs 14.7 lbs.  At 16 weeks she weighed about 8 lbs, so she falls on the subtract a few lbs side of the doubled 16-week weight formula.

I wonder if that guideline is less reliable the smaller they are?

I have to believe that the formula doesn't apply to the smaller dogs who will reach full height/size by 6 or 8 months old. I think that's only for the Standards.

And even for the Standards, it's also not 16 weeks, it's four months, which is not the same thing. There are 12 months and 52 weeks in a year; 4 months is one third of a year. One third of 52 weeks is 17.3 weeks, lol. A small thing, but puppies grow like weeds during that first 4 months, and between 16 and 17.3 weeks, a puppy can easily gain half a lb; my Miniature Poodle puppy has been doing that!
I agree that Teddy is tiny regardless of all this. My puppy weighed more than Teddy at 10 weeks old. He wieghed 10.2 lbs at 16 weeks, and he is predicted to be about 18 lbs at adulthood.
I'm wondering what size Teddy's parents are?
I'm also wondering how these breeders are starting out with full sized Retrievers in there and ending up with such tiny dogs who are smaller than Miniature Poodles. I suspect they may be using Toy Poodles in there somewhere.

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing.  I also wonder if they've gotten to dogs that small how much retriever % is left.. I bet it's not much.

I am of the (likely) unpopular opinion that if you have a dog that is more than 3/4 poodle you may as well just get a poodle ;)

I am of the same opinion. :)

My understanding is a mini F1B is a mini goldendoodle bred with a toy poodle :)

Not necessarily. An F1B is an F1 of any size bred back to a Poodle of any size. The F1B part refers only to the generation. The size is a separate issue. The names these doodle breeder give to what they are selling ("Miniature F1B Goldendoodle puppies" or whatever) is completely arbitrary. There is no "official terminology" and from what i can tell, they use whatever they have on hand and call it whatever they want. I've seen Miniature F1Bs done with standard F1s bred to Miniature Poodles, miniature F1s bred to Miniature Poodles, miniature F1s bred to Standard Poodles. I'd venture to say that the majority of people here who would tell you they have a Mini doodle have no Toy Poodle in their dogs at all. When you start getting Toy Poodles into it, by rights, they should be calling them Toy F1Bs, IMO.
There is a breeder in Indiana & FL who makes up certain definitions of what constitutes these different names for different mixes, but again, it's all arbitrary and varies from one doodle breeder to another. Unlike purebreds, there is no "breed standard" that defines the size ranges for "miniature", "toy", "standard" etc.

And if "a mini F1B is a mini goldendoodle bred with a toy poodle", what size are the parents of that mini goldendoodle that is being bred? I sure hope it isn't a full sized retriever being bred to a Toy Poodle, that would be a structural nightmare.
So if that mini goldendoodle
is from a Golden Retriever and a Miniature Poodle, that right there negates the idea that Toy Poodles are involved in mini goldendoodles, lol.

To give you an idea of the different variations in what constitutes a mini goldendoodle, here's the info that I found on that Indiana/FL breeder's website:

"An F1 Mini Goldendoodle  is a cross breed between a Golden Retriever mom and a Miniature Poodle dad. An F1b Mini Goldendoodle is a cross between a standard doodle mom and a mini poodle dad…. and an F1b toy golden doodle is a cross between a mini doodle mom and a mini poodle dad."

This is by no means an accurate definition, I'm just posting it to give an example of how the different doodle breeders define the sizes and generations.

So did you meet Teddy's parents? And if one of his parents is a mini goldendoodle, what are that dog's parents? A Golden and what sized Poodle?

Teddy's mom was mini goldendoodle weighed 22 lbs I don't know the mom's parents
