Yesterday, when the carpet cleaners were here for about the 100th time, they gave me some bad news.  Apparently when I was cleaning up from a couple recent episodes of sick Doodle tummies, I "over soaked" the carpet with cleaner, and it seeped into the pad.  When you do that, apparently the stain will disappear initially, but if it's worked into the pad, it resurfaces.  So, they were able to clean the carpet and now it looks fine, but he assured me those stains will "be back".  So, I need to replace the carpet.  I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for types of carpet that seem to stand up well with Doodles.  My guys are housebroken, but every few weeks one of them seems to have an upset stomach, and I'm dealing with spit up or diarrhea (or both).  I want something that will clean up well and is also durable.  I'm figuring will all of us who have Doodles with stomach issues, someone has probably found a carpet that can withstand these "clean ups".  Thanks everyone!

I guess I now need to add carpet to the list of things we didn't plan on when we got our Doodles....oh well, they are so worth it!  At least now I know white berber is a really bad choice!

Wow, after hearing about this carpet I wish I had the money right now to recarpet...just because! :)
The SmartStrand carpeting sounds very interesting.  I think I will be looking at re-carpeting a couple of rooms as well, and I just looked at the site you posted.  There are places fairly close by that carry this, so I am pleased!  Thank you for the suggestion.
Hi Jane,

Kathy's so right about the SmartStrand. It's amazing stuff. That, and Mohawk's Berber line is excellent.

You should also consider quality padding underneath. For a bit more money, you can get an anti-microbial pad that will keep stains AND dust from settling into the carpet. So when you do have to get it steam cleaned, EVERYTHING comes right out.

Good luck!
Hardwood Floors and Chilewich floor mats!! or Flor carpet tiles...
I recarpeted the stairs and upstairs in a light oatmeal/cream colored berber a couple of months before I got Callie. It was all fine until she got giardia. I was really hoping that it would stay clean until I finshed paying for the carpeting, but that was not to be! After that illness, all I wanted to do was rip it all up and lay down tiles and a drain!
HA HA, I hear you on the "drain". They we could just "hose it down".
Good topic. I am hoping someone has some great ideas.
I'll keep this discussion in mind when we get ready to shop carpet. We don't have carpet down right now, still have painted plywood in the livingroom (this, by the way, is a great stress reducer when potty-training a new puppy). We will eventually buy carpet but I think we will wait a few months :-) My husband suggested an outdoor carpet laid on top of a grate. We can hose the "carpet" down and let all dirt, dust, children & puppy messes run down a drain and outside.

We currently have area rugs on the sub-floor plywood and just noticed that Charlotte (10 wks old) has a new game. She purposely catches her teeth on a carpet thread and then tries to pull it out. NOT an approved game!! After reprimanded for this game, she invented another where she flips the edge up and chews on the wrapped edge and rubber bottom. Apparently this is much better than the 5 various toys and chews that are scattered on said carpet.
I wanted to add an update to this discussion, because it was so helpful to me.  We did replace our carpet which was destroyed after Guinness's pancreatitis episode, and I did follow Kathy & Bella's advice and get the Mohawk Smartstrand carpet which was installed the week before XMAS.  Well, Guinness decided to "test it out" during the night.  He had one of his IBS attacks and had diarrhea all over the new carpet.  So, at 3:00 AM I was doing some "rug cleaning".  I'm happy to report that it looks like all the stains have come out.  We'll run the green machine this morning to be sure, but right now it's looking good.  So, thanks everyone for your advice....it was perfect!
I am interested in this carpet too.  Can I ask how the price runs per sq foot?  Thoughtful of Guiness to test out the new carpet!
It was $36 per square YARD.   We just ran the green machine, and it looks like brand new.  This was a great test because he pooped everywhere...apparently he was walking while he was "going".  I love it!
Jane...perhaps you should post the information on your Green Machine! Make and model. Also the solution you used.
