I've debated about putting this out there but we have our own thoughts about why this happens.
This picture contains the ( remains ) urn's of Bella, my husbands dog of 18 years and Pete, my dog of 14 years. They are placed together on the bookcase shelf in the living room.
Spud will just sit and bark at them. " Bark Bark Bark Bark Bark" What are your thoughts?
Rex's ashes are buried in the back yard after a year or two of sitting around. There is a rock on top and a marker. Neither one of my dogs paid them any attention inside or out.
Today I am moving them to the eye level, reachable level, on coffee table. I don't want him to dump them over but............. it is an experiment so I will take my chances. Anything for the name of Science!
I brought out my cat's urn to show it to Charlie. ( It is in my daughter's room and Charlie is not allowed in her room because she takes her stuffed animals!) Charlie sniffed at it, licked and licked, and walked away. It looks like it is glue gun shut. I don't know if she can smell something or not.
I am sure people will think I am strange but what ever. :)
I have 3 urns of my cats and 1 for my Payton. Onyx (cat) is in a sealed wood box.It is really quite pretty. Roddee (cat) is in tin.(same Vet,I thought she would be in wood like Onyx but I was so upset when I was filling out the forms I did not check the wooden box) Another urn for Peja is a tin (different Vet). Payton is in a "human" wooden box with his name and a lock and key.
I did open the tins when I brought them home for the other cats and dogs to sniff if they wanted too. I only saw the dogs sniff. It was a quick sniff walk away thing.
When my sister brought Payton home (I was in no shape to pick him up) I did open his box to see, his plastic bag was in a velvet bag. I just sat on my bed with him,and Jordan crying my eyes out. (Still so hard)
I have all the urns on my book shelf, The other animals leave them alone, but I am not sure if it because I opened them up for the to sniff. Or if they do not care. I do know each animal mourned for other.
I do plan on spreading their ashes at some point....when I am ready.
I do not know this helps you at all.
Thank you Tante. It may. I do not know what is going on. Since I moved them to the mantel he has only gone over there once and placed his paws on the fireplace to look up.
Today I moved them to a reachable level on the coffee table.
BTW: I do not think your comments were strange at all. If anyone does--do we really care?
