What is puppy strangles?
It's been a long time since genetics class in college, but can something be genetic and not hereditary (unless its a mutation)?
But as to your question, yes I there are some genetic issues (mutations only I think, but I'm not 100% sure) that are not inherited, but simply one of those blips that occurs randomly. Though who knows...we may discover that more and more things are actually genetic AND hereditary.
It is absolutely horrible! However, I was told it is not genetic or hereditary. NOr does it happen again once treated. I have about 140 puppies within the same breeding lines and have only had one case in 5 years. So I guess I've been told right. Also, we have a world renowned specialty vet clinic in San Diego where I took the puppy. Each vet is a specialist. That is where I got my diagnosis, treatment and info. It is treated with prednisone & clears up quite quickly if it is caught quickly. PUppy love from Joy & furry folk
