Melissa of Porter and I were recently discussing what sign we would hang in our entry if we wanted to instruct our arriving guests how to "behave" in our homes-especially in regard to interacting with our doodles.

Melissa's was:

"If you are female please shower the dog in the armchair with attention

If you are male please ignore the dog until your third visit"

Mine would be:

"Please remove your shoes and keep your hands at your sides"

Okay, the SHOE part is for me but "hands at your sides" is because people waving their hands about seem to trigger some friendly "spaz out and attack" mechanism in Tara.

What would your sign say?

Okay, I know this is mean but:

"If you don't like dogs are you sure you're at the right house?"

I'm not saying that everyone has to love dogs,  but if someone DOESN'T like dogs ?????  It just makes me wonder and I do judge people on how they treat animals....

Hey, I'm with ya on this one!!
Okay, I just reread this and realized it might sound harsh.  I'm NOT saying that if you don't like dogs then you aren't welcome at my house.  Some people don't like dogs but don't dislike dogs - that's fine - I'm not a cat person.  I'm talking about the people who have strong negative feelings towards dogs - and not because of a bad experience.  I can totally understand if someone was traumatized by a dog and doesn't like dogs.  It's just that if a person is anti-animals, well, we just won't have much in common and I'll wonder about you.....

Yeah, it is pretty tough to be friends with a non-animal person. I mean what do you have in common??

How about "If you don't like dogs, be prepared to have your mind changed"? Who can resist a doodle, right? Or in your case TWO doodles!!  :)

or if that doesnt work how about:

"If you don't like dogs be prepared to be bitten~by the owner!" LOL!

I don't think there are true "anti-animal" folks out there short of psychopaths.  Most people just freak out about animals living WITH people indoors.  But they can appreciate them in zoos and pet stores and other 'on display' cases.  It just has to do with culture and how they were raised in part.  I have friends and family who are really uncomfortable with the idea of my dogs living indoors with us.  They don't hate dogs or animals...just have no draw to them.
This is my Aunt ...... I lived near her for 8 years in FL and we hung out together alot.  She used to have a german shephard but you would think my girls are HUGE the way she is around them ...... I think she is jealous of them personally!  She doesn't even really want to pet them .... so of course of all the people in the room who do they want to go be near!   lol     :o)
I once saw this show and a lady was so afraid of dogs that when they brought out a puppy (very young not even all that rowdy yet) she started crying. I was afraid of dogs once, but I wouldn't cry over one.
My mom was bitten by a German Shepherd as a child and was terrified of dogs. It was a miracle that she let us have a little cocker spaniel for a pet when we were growing up. But she never was an "animal person" at all either.  I guess it depends on how bad the bite was. Some people have actually been attacked and mauled by dogs which could leave you pretty terrified I would imagine.

"Do not pet when dog runs and jumps on you! IGNORE".

The freind comments are pretty funny.  I have a good group of friends - about 8 of us regularly get together for girls nights, etc...

Out of the 8, 5 have dogs and are obsessed. Who am I closest to?  Those 5.....coincidence? LOL

Come to think of it my friends are all dog obsessed too!  There must be some mysterious force that draws us to each other!!  :) Like attracts like...

As for your sign, that is another one I could just hang around my neck when I take Tara places. It's really hard for people to ignore a doodle!! Or a Chi!

"If you don't want to be jumped on by our dogs, then quit ignoring our advice!"
This reminds me of my neighbor who COMPLETELY ignores everything we ask him to do in helping Tara to learn proper behavior! GRRRRRR! I call him the Anti-Dog Whisperer!
