I was posting a comment on an adorable picture of Albus, and I was about to ask Caitlin what made her pick that name. I love it.. So if you don't mind sharing.. I would love to know, Our family is going to be welcoming another puppy soon, but my mom is getting to be raising her mainly so she is picking the name.

I picked Jack Daniels for three reasons,

1. Someone I loved very, very, dearly, died after his lung transplant and his dogs name was Jack

2 Little House on the Prairie is my all time favorite show and the dogs name on there was Jack, before bandit came along

3. Jack Johnson is one of my favorite artist

And well Daniels is my mom's maiden name and since I can't give her grandchildren, I figured I would name Jack after her.

So what made you pick your dogs name?

There's not much mystery to our guys' names.  Guinness was our first Dood, and we knew we wanted an Irish name...so we named him after our favorite Irish beer.  Then along came Murphy.  Because he was a rehome he already had a name...and what could be more perfect.
I love this thread.... not much to contribute - because Rocky was a rehome.  But, I love hearing everyone's names!  I always try to think of what I might have named Rocky if he had been ours from puppyhood!  But, I do konw that Rocky's original mommy named him "Rocky" because he came from a breeder in "Rockwall, TX."
My husband picked Hunter, even though she is a girl. It was a trade for me picking the puppy, easy trade in my opinion! He had several on his short list and when he said Hunter I jumped on it. The other choices - Glock, Mossberg and Holster. See why I jumped at Hunter?!

Sydney was named after the city since she is an Australian Labradoodle.  We wanted a two syllable name that ended with and "ee" sound so that when we called her we sounded happy!  We also liked the character that Jennifer Garner played "Sydney" on the TV show Alias.

Olivia is aka "Funny Girl" which the breeder named her.  We often say that we should have kept Funny Girl as her name because she always does such funny crazy things that continue to make us laugh.  We decided on Olivia because we liked how it sounds and she is an actress just like Olivia DeHavilland.  While Kathy sat with Olivia in the Emergency waiting room while I was in with the Doctor with Sydney the other day an older gentleman asked what Olivia's name was.  Kathy told him and he said "Oh, just like Olivia DeHavilland?".  Guess classic movie buffs could relate to Olivia, her name and her great acting talent!

Personally, I love these discussions! We get so many new members and current folks adding more dood's to their family's that the topic changes every time! I am glad it's going again :-). Even with other discussions I think every time they are posted you get valuable comments and opinions as people's situations and experiences change.
My kids were thinking of names... and because we live in a neighborhood of a lot of traditional Jewish families (most of whom don't have dogs) my younger twin boys were selecting some highly questionable dog names with biblical background:  Sarah Rivkah, Shmuella, Tzippora... you get it!  Then, my older son threw out Cocoa and I jumped up, said "that's it!" and put an end to the naming.  It ended up being a great name- two syllables, easy to say, easy to remember and not too similar to everyday words.

I really really loved reading everyone's reason's for naming their dogs.. So much fun...Some are so original, some like mine have meaning but are traditional, and some just sounded good....

I think you can learn a lot about someone by the way they name things....This is so much fun!! Thank you for sharing....

That really is sweet...

"Capp,"  Cinnamon Cappuccino, is named after a favorite high school history teacher's child.  The child has the teacher's maiden name as his first name, Capp, and my daughter who adores this teacher named the dog after her 5 year old son.  If Capp had been a girl, she would have named him after the teacher- Georgia. I made my child ask her teacher before she named this dog after her child.  It only seemed fair.  The teacher thought it was quite an honor, and  Capp seems to fit him perfectly.

Java Joe was a rehome.  He was Dexter for 4 weeks, and then when his situation did not work out he came to live with Capp and our family.  They are half brothers, and since they are both chocolates we wanted a coffee name.  So...

Joe and Capp are much loved and adored.

Originally I wanted to name my puppy Mabel. BUT my adult children got involved......we have an older poodle whose name is Franklin. Awesome dog.  So to compliment that, my kids wanted to name the puppy BEANS. Um hmm. Frank & Beans.....noooooooooo. So I compromised and named her Jellybean, and now we have all variations, Beans, Jelly , Jellybean, and Jaily when she gets put into her crate :)
Great story! I do love Mabel as a name... We had a Dudley, Earle and now Owen, but Jellybean is just so great! Love it! Jaily, haha
My dog is Coco Chanel! I decided that if I had a "designer" dog she should have a designer name! She is s prissy and walks with a swish! It fits her perfect and she only answers to the whole thing!!
