Three weeks ago I posted about Quincy and an abscess he had on his head that caused us a major amount of concern, two weeks prior to that he had to see the vet because his eyelid was very swollen and inflamed. We just finished 3 weeks of antibiotics and having the abscess drained twice and then yesterday we noticed this. There is also a spot on his lower lip and it seems to be getting bigger.
I have taken him to the vet again who diagnosed it as an allergy and he is now on prednisone and another 10 days of antibiotics. Has anyone ever experienced this? I know Joanne has something similar with Spud's lip but put it down to friction from the large ball he was playing with. Quincy hasn't been doing anything different and there haven't been any changes in his diet. The only thing I can think of is that on Monday he got ahold of a pressure treated garden stake that he stole out of my flower bed but he only had it for a few seconds. I don't really know what to think. :<(
UPDATE; It's been five days and whatever the mystery ailment is, it is slowly getting better, I don't know if it's because of the meds or in spite of them but it's is getting better and that's what matters. It actually looked a little worse for a couple of days, not bigger but it seemed to have tiny blisters. We go back to the vet tomorrow for a recheck. I have no new insights into what may have caused it but just to be on the safe side I did get rid of all the garder stakes today while I was cleaning out the flower beds, it may not be the culprit but I'm not willing to risk it. Thanks to all our friends for their ideas and well wishes, I hope our next discussion is not even remotely related to health issues.
This is a pic from today.

I have no idea, but am sorry you are having all this worry with Quincy. I hope it all gets figured out and he stops worrying you. I hope the meds. help and he is back to normal in no time.
Thanks Laurie, I am so looking forward to normal worry free days.
Aw poor Quincy...hope he feels better soon =(
I'm sorry to hear about Quincy. Isn't this his upper lip? I don't think a newer pressure treated stake would do this. But I have no clue about it otherwise. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery. When it rains but it pours.
F, the picture is his top lip, but Donna says there's also a small spot on his lower lip that is getting bigger. Which seems like whatever it is is spreading.
So sad.
Our area looked as if it was spreading also. It was just the damaged skin sloughing off. Hope this is what is going on with Quincy.
Thanks F, this is turning into a saga and I'm ready for it to be over. :>)
Oh poor Quincy. I hope you figure out what it is. gentle pats to big Q.
Thanks Candice, thankfully it doesn't seem to be causing him a lot of discomfort, just causing his mom a lot of worry.
Spud! Oh no, it is not Spud, but Quincy! I didn't see our name until later but this looks exactly like a Rug Burn to me.
Also, it is right underneath the nose. Did he possibly smell a hot dish you just placed on the table for dinner? Also, has he been digging and smelling underneath a fence? Sticking his nose in a chain-link fence? The cone have him trying to rub at things? <---
Still, looks like he smelled a pan, plate, or something hot.
For some reason I can't find my picks but I'll get it out to compare. Going to look now.
Here are both lips. The link as it was discussed in the photo

All this from just a ball! Or so we thought a huge red ball. So maybe yours is something simple too! Spud seemed to lick the upper lip a little extra but we really had no problems healing. Just a really sore mouth for a week.
