So we've all done it ... toiled over what name we will give our new puppy/dog. Names come from everywhere. I know a Peat, a Guiness, a Breslin, a Stout ... all unique names given for a reason. I've even seen Leroy "Gibbs" on Doodle Kisses! So here's the discussion ... let us know what your doodle's name is and why you chose it.

We(My DH, two sons & I) just couldn't agree on a name...Our eldest son wanted Piper, our youngest wanted Stella...my husband liked Tessa or Tess and I wanted Willow...one day we were on a road trip and the name Ellie just popped into my head...I ran it passed everyone and it was UNANIMOUS...everyone loved it...at that point it just seemed like it was meant to be...Ellie was our first female dog and we really wanted something pretty & feminine sounding...and it's a name we don't hear very often...so not too common.
Our first dog, our beloved golden retriever was a little easier to name. My maternal grandfather had passed away a couple of years before we got him. He was the most wonderful, gentle man. He loved all animals but especially loved dogs. Our eldest son was three at the time and one day said "Mommy I think we should name our puppy after Grandad"...at that moment my heart just melted...and well long story short...Jack it was...and we just absolutely loved that dog and loved the name.
Great post Sue...how fun:)
Great story! Ellie (and Jack) are great names!
I'm really glad I put this post out there ... thank you everyone who responded. I absolutely LOVE all the names and the reasons you chose them. I find it interesting that so far, none of us have chosen the same names. So, I guess it's my turn ...
Leeloo is her name. Many people think that it's after the Disney movie "Lilo & Stitch" and that we spelled it differently. Not at all. True, her name did come from a movie and that I did look up the spelling to make sure we did it right. My family loves Sci Fi movies ... and one of our favs is "The Fifth Element". For those who don't know the movie, the main character is an orange-haired super being who is needed to save the world from destruction ... and her name is Leeloo. So, there it is, our doodle ... Leeloo ... name-sake to an orange-hair super-being ... a doodle who is truly a super-being herself and capable of saving the world in her own doodle way!
Loved Fifth element and the Leeloo character - orange hair and all.
When my kids were younger, we were on a vacation to Yellowstone National Park. My DH "likes" to eat, so we started teasing him, that he was Yogi...always stealing the picnic baskets of food. (some of you are probably too young to know the Yogi Bear cartoon) We even have several stuffed Yogis we have accumulated over the years.
Anyway he was Yogi and I was the Ranger always trying to get him to eat right. So when it came time to name our new puppy, Yogi came to mind and the name was special to him and our kids. It turns out to be a fitting name, he's goofy... and does like his food too!
Yogi is a great name ... I was almost expecting a Boo Boo!
What a cute story behind Yogi's name.
Our doodle's name is Luna.
As we were driving home from having picked her out (it was nighttime), we were both looking up at the sky... and my husband suggested Luna just as I was thinking of sky-related names looking at the moon and stars. Luna was named after the bright moon that lit our way home that night :)
Awesome!
Luna is such a wonderful name.
Okay, I have to admit that I copied a name off of this website - When I was waiting for Myla I posted a similar discussion http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/obsessing-about-puppy-name trying to figure out the perfect name. We had had a very difficult year, my Dad had passed away in January and our doodle of five years, Zak, passed away the following September. Responding to the discussion was Jennifer, of Jennifer, Chloe and Myla, who said that her Myla stood for "My Little Angel" and that just seemed perfect to me! I loved the sound of it and the meaning seemed perfect for us and when I asked DH he loved it too! Just so you know, I did ask Jennifer if it was okay and she very graciously said "of course". We still love the name and she has definitely been our little angel (or as we like to say, sent from an angel)!
That's great! And a compliment to Jennifer as well.
