Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After being on DK for a month or so now, I have noticed all the cute and creative names of our sweet doodles.

I thought it might be fun to see how everyone came up with their doodle names.

After reading "A Dog's Purpose" this summer, I decided to name my puppy Bailey after one of the dog's in the book.  He had such a wonderful spirit.  I only hope my girl has the same soul as Bailey did in the book.http://www.adogspurpose.com/

And if you haven't read it.....you need too...It's wonderful....Make's you look at animals in a whole new light.

So, how did your dood get's it's name?

Lucy was named for a Virtual Great Dane that I had as my screen saver after we lost our little Toy Poodle of 16 years.  We had said we would never have another dog.  But I used to stop in the Pet Store to get my Puppy Fix and just play with the puppies.  Then I added this Great Dane as my screen saver and named her Lucy because DH used to come in the door from work and yell "Lucy I'm Home".  Then after a while I added a little foo foo doggie to my screen saver and named her Ethel.  Then I started looking at puppies on line, and well you know the rest.  When we got the girls we knew instantly that the black puppy was a Lucy.  She just had that personality.  However, The little cream/apricot puppy just didn't seem like an Ethel.  She was so tiny and petite.  I loved the name Sophie immediately but DH wasn't sold.  So for two days we made a list of names and finally he agreed that she was a Sophie.  Our previous little Toy Poodle though was Asti.  We got her for our 2nd anniversary and we had served Asti Spumonti at our wedding reception and she was just sort of a champagne color so the name just sort of fit.
Love all the stories about our sweet fur babies...
When I finally decided it was time for a puppy, being a nerd I started making lists: What to buy, what to fix around the house, what to name said puppy! I wanted something a bit different, a bit nerdy if possible (his sidekick's name is Pixel, after all) ... "Lachlan" was a whim, as I'd had a friend long ago with that name and always liked the sound of it ... one look at that little serious face and the rest of the list was thrown away.

My dogs' names are Harpo and Groucho Too.  Groucho Too was named after his father, Groucho, and Harpo just seemed to go well with Groucho.  Guess my next dog will be Chico or Zeppo.  I think I would prefer Zeppo unless it was a really large dog.  It would be funny to have a huge dog named Chico.

Well, I actually named her Adelaide after the main female character in Guys and Dolls at first, but it just didn't fit her personality. She was a very very spunky puppy who kept trying to eat my hair and play with everyone. Her color and her personality just demanded a different name, so I tried to think of words to describe her, and "Sunny" just fit!
Isn't it odd that we might choose a wonderful name for our pet but it just doesn't fit somehow and another one evolves.  I love both Adelaide and Sunny.
We name all of our dogs food names. We have had a Hershey, a Honey, and when we got our Chocolate doodle I wanted the name Fudge. I just loved the name. When our second dog came along, I wanted to name him Noodle as in Noodle Doodle, but my DH said no way was he going to the dog park and yelling, "Here Noodle, Here Fudge," so we searched for something else. I liked Macaroni (Mac), Vanilla Bean (Bean or Beans), or Walnut (Wally). We had almost decided on Bean or Beans, and then I thought about a Midwest Ginger Ale named Vernors and when I suggested that name, my DH loved it. Every time, I suggested any other name, he would yell, "Vern." My DH has never named a pet in our home, so we threw him a bone, so to speak, and we now have Fudge and Vern (Vernors). Know what I mean, Vern.....LOL!
We have discussed before what husbands will NOT yell at a dog park.  Yours drew the line at Noodle and mine at Buck.  Oddly enough, Ned is called Noodle all of the time - even at the dog park.  However it just happened casually and no one was forced into it.
I remember that no one wanted to yell, "Buck, off!" either...LOL! My sister was so opposed to the name Fudge that she sent me mountains of emails why I should not name her Fudge. One of the reasons being Fudge sounded like a bad word. You can see I never listen to my sister.

I have a friend with 4 boxers and the are all named after candy bars.   In puppy school Kahula class mate was a minature snauzher and his name was Hershey, I thought it was so cute that his owner would say, hershey kisses and he would kiss her!  Then I thought, wow, wouldn't Kahlua kisses be great?  Oh that would be a different addiction! HAHAHA!

One day we were watching I think it was dancing with the stars. One of the judges was David Hasselhoff "the Hoff". My mom thought instead of Hoff it was Huff. When we picked him up he just looked like a Huff to us.
I wondered how Huff got his name.  Very cute.
