What should I do?

Today we had some friends over and they had a four year old daughter and Java (only 7 months, i have had him for four), was REALLY scared of her. I am wondering what i should do so he isn't afraid of little people.  My brother and sisters are 12- 19  years old and he is used to my family but why the scaredness?

Thank you I will try that when we get back from our trip. Java put his tail under his legs and ran away. We had him sit down by me and made him sit and the little girl try to pet him. The girl just stood there. She wasn't that bothered about it but she did want to pet him.
