The Wire Crate we want to buy Trixie is on sale this week. Right now we only have 2 Plastic Vari Kennels. The wire one we hope will keep her cooler & Be used for travel.
I am not sure what size to buy. I think Trixie is going to end up way smaller then I expected. She weighed 23.5 # at the 16 week mark. At 19 weeks she is at 31#. She only gained 1 # this last week.
Last I measured a week ago she was 19 " at the shoulder.
The medium size crate is: 30 x 21 x 24 in., holds up to 50 lb. dog
(my dd has this size right now for her 48# Australian sheperd mix (sp). So I am leaning towards this size.
The large crate is: 36 x 24 x 27 in., holds up to 70 lb. dog
I dont want to end up with one too small. But I sure dont need to travel with one that is bigger then needed.
What size crate do you have for your full grown doodle? (measurements) And how big is your dog?
Thanks for any help

We bought a Petco Model 600 (up to 40lbs) 30" x 19" x 21" crate with 2 doors (get the one with two doors so you can use in either direction) before we brought her home based on the breeders recommendation (2 doors in my recommendation). We had the divider in it as Rua weighed all of 4lbs sopping wet when we brought her home.
This is Rua in her crate 5 months ago. She was 4-1/2 months old here and weighed about 9-1/2lbs.
Here she is today. She is 10 months, 1 week and 2 days (give or take a minute or two) and weighs just under 17lbs. She is under 12" at shoulder. I don't think she is going to get too much bigger...she hasn't changed much weigh-wise in a few months. Rua has plenty of room in this crate even though she can't STRETCH out (she lays on the floor in a squashed frog postion, usually).
If you take Trixie's 16 week weight at 23.5 x 2 = 47lbs and add 5-10lbs, you might be a bit cramped. We had a dog that came to us at a little over 4 months weighed 24.5 lbs. We got the large crate for her...she was at 55lbs at a little over 1 year old.
Petco's Model 700 crate is just a bit smaller than the large you mentioned...it is 36" x 23" x 25".
We can fit Rua's crate (not collasped) in the back on my Honda SUV (CR-V). I just stuff it Rua's bags (holding food, toys, bowls, etc) and whatever else fits in it. You can always collaspe it!
I was hoping shed end up at 47- 57# but she has slowed down so much in growing I think she may be smaller. I hope she wont be though!
But...I just went over to my dds house looked at her crate it is not a Medium. it is the large size. he fits in it very nice. So we will get the large size.
It might be good for people to still post sizes on this thread as it may be helpful to others.
I have the Petco 800 series 42L x 28w x 30H fits up to 90lbs. Clover is tall weighs 65 lbs and if I have a bed in this crate when she stands/sits her head hits the top. If I would have went by weight only and got a smaller crate it would be to samll IMO. So if in doubt I would go a little larger.
I would definitely go with the larger one. A lot of doodles have a poodle body under all of that fluff- Cocoa only weighs 38 lbs but has very long legs and a narrow body, so she needs a good sized crate so she can stretch out properly.
I think that the size of the crate should be planned by height, not weight- for example, a stocky pit bull may easily weigh more then a trim standard poodle, but the poodle will probably need a bigger crate so she can stretch out properly.
