Sorry I've been out of touch...and THANK YOU for all your kind and cheery Holiday Wishes to me and Clark...they were much appreciated. Can't stay long...we have family here through tomorrow...but wanted to throw a question out there...
We have had MORE snow in one period than I've ever experienced. Hence...there is a LOT of poop buried in my yard under soon-to-be slush...which will turn things into quite the poop soup. I'm SOOO disgusted about the clean up process that is looming. Does anyone who lives in a serious White Christmas state have any tips or suggestions for me...or even a glimmer of hope that 2-3 weeks worth of doggy land mines will not take over!?
Thanks and I'll be back ''full time'' after the New Year!!!
Well, I'll tell you what I do, but you won't like it. You've gotta pick it up before it gets buried by more snow.
Jack poops on our twice a day walks most of the year, so there's rarely any in the yard. But during the heavy snow & ice season, I can't risk going out walking with him, especially at night, so he has to use the backyard. And every a.m., I'm out there, picking up from the day/night before.
Of course, I haven't got a husband......
I'm with Karen on this one. Try to stay with it as much as possible. The only trick I have is that if I have missed some days, go out early in the morning to clean them up because at least the overnight temps should be cold enough to turn them into semi poopsicles. That makes it a little less revolting to pick up. Anyone else getting the 60 to 80 mph winds today? What a strange winter.
HA! I didn't even TRY to stay with it. There was NO way I was trekking through the snow with a poop bag after EACH of my three pooped. I'm not even HOME for half their poops. If it was just Rosco (Who's poop schedule I do know) I might have tried it. But not with three...LOL. Sucks now...but while DH and his visiting Brother are snowmobiling today...I'm shoveling POOP!
We shovel Tanner's poop to, as he does it.......Which is usually twice a day,...We still go outside with Tanner, he waits for someone to go outside with him...It gets awfully cold out there waiting for him to do his poop!!!
I had to go outside with my dogs every single time they went for 28 years. Now that I finally have a fenced yard, crazy Jackdoodle doesn't like to go out alone either, so 95% of the time I'm out there, too. It's not so bad...you always know exactly what's going on with their digestive system, lol!
I was out just out in your back yard, this am we had still has snow....now I have slop. I was thinking/hoping it would melt away with the snow.
Of course it did not. Tomorrow I will have to clean the yard. The deal I made with my DH was I would have the yard the clean up duty.... I really should try to renegotiate that one.
Yes you should. Our deal was I'll let you get your Labradoodle if you clean up the poop. I do EVERYTHING else in reguards to Gida, so that is the least he can do for his dog:)
This may seem shocking or disgusting, but I did it for years, and it might be a good solution to the problem.
If the poop in the yard is all from your own dogs, whom you know to be healthy and parasite free, the poop can be shoveled into the soil in any flower or planting beds you have, instead of picking it up & removing it from the yard. It makes very good fertilizer for your flowers, etc., and also discourages rabbits, etc., from eating your plants. It's also much more ecologically sound than preserving the poop in plastic bags in landfills for all eternity.
