Aside from vets and medical companies who sell surgical equipment and pharmaceuticals who peddle drugs NO current expert/researcher finds any scientific / health related reason to neuter a dog or cat etc.....

Neutering has been proven to cause numerous lifelong health issues....ranging from skeletal to physiological to shorten life spans......and many, many more......

There are indeed many studies available to us, including many more recent than the outdated 1987 study you chose to cite. The one mentioned in this article, from 2013, might interest you:

If for no other reason than population control, I will spay and neuter any dogs that I have.

A noble premise, but a responsible pet owner has control over this factor.

The reason that all reputable rescues spay/neuter before adoption is that we have learned the hard way that not all (or even most) pet owners are responsible enough. :)
Gosh, people can't even seem to keep track of what their dogs are ingesting, to judge by the many posts on all internet dog forums regarding whether or not the dog has eaten a sock (or rock, or bra, or twigs, or chocolate, or chewing gum, or garbage, or you-name-it)  and the many emergency surgeries thereby engendered. And FB is full of people trying to give away "oops" litters. I think that's enough evidence that spayuing/neutering is truly the best way to prevent unwanted litters.

It didn't seem snarky to me, but I happen to have very strict standards of what constitutes proper care and supervision of our dogs, lol.

I do have to say though (and this has been mentioned here before) that it does seem that men have a lot more trouble with the idea of neutering their dogs than women do. :)
