Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I was just thinking about how breeders get their dogs. Not me but a lot of people especially pure bred breeders are against mixed breeds unless they are from a rescue then its okay to adopt one.So if breeders are only looking for the betterment of their purebred dogs and to only improve that particular breed. Why would they sell a breeding dog to a breeder that breeds mixed breeds? No reputable breeder of a pure bred dog that cares about their breed and improving upon that breed would ever sell breeding stock to a breeder that breeds mixed breeds. It makes sense to me.So where are these premium  labradoodle  breeders and goldendoodle breeders getting their quality stock from.Once again im confused. What am i missing here? Please keep an open mind these are not my opinions and is not a stab at the awesome LD and GD.

Who are the Torbec dogs? Calla is generally a very sweet, even tempered dog.

They were in Ultra Redd's sire's pedigree, which Carol linked above.

They're Canadian breeders of beautiful apricots and blacks, you can see their website here:

Torbec Standard Poodles

Thanks. I did look at the site. I do wish poodles could be groomed like doodles : ) There are some groomed both ways on the site. The poodles are beautiful animals but the show poodle cut just is so unattractive to me. When Rex was living with me he had that doodly look I prefer.

And that brings up another issue related to this discussion. There has been much criticism of show breeders who are breeding for looks alone, but let's all be honest here. Isn't "looks" one of the main things that attracted many doodle owners to doodles in the first place? When describing their reasons for wanting a doodle, don't a large percentage of doodle owners mention non-shedding and appearance? And isn't the reason most people give for choosing a doodle over a poodle the fact that they dislike the poodle appearance? Don't many doodle breeders themselves mention the appearance of the doodles, and don't both doodle breeders and owners seem to focus most on size, color and coat (all appearance factors which have nothing to do with health, soundness or temperament) when looking for dogs to breed or buy?

It is clearly not just purebred breeders who are focusing mainly on looks, lol.

oh i guess that is true lol. Doodles likely wouldn't be as 'special' if they weren't so freakin adorable!

Sherri, I couldn't agree more! That's how I ended up with this gigantic, sheds-like-a-maniac goofball!

And doesn't this Torbec poodle look very doodle-ish? Especially around the nose, lol?

Funny I was just writing about the grooming and then saw your response.

It just always surprises me that so many people have never seen purebred poodles who are kept in a "natural" cut. I have never seen a poodle in show cut except at a dog show, lol.

the poodle show cut is so different so i think it sticks out in people's minds.

But that's like a Martian seeing a picture of Lady Gaga and thinking that's what humans look like. She looks so different that she sticks in people's minds, too, but we know that isn't representative of human women.

I really think the problem is ignorance about dogs in general.

I suspect many of our pet ALDs have common ancestors, even Calla and Luca share a labradoodle great grandparent, not so well regarded I may add.
