Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Thanks everyone who joined Adina & I for the live dog training webinar!  A very special thanks to our trainer Doggy Dan for sharing so much good stuff.  Adina is off to put the kids to bed so I'll wrap this up.

What did you think?

Again, thank you!  We know it's not easy to free up an evening on a holiday weekend.  :-)

We're sorry we couldn't address every question you guys asked in chat.  You had some great questions and we just couldn't get to them all.

What I really like about Dan since getting to know him is that NOTHING is off limits.  He doesn't hold anything back and say "You have to subscribe to my website to get that answer."  Nope.  He will give you the best answer he possibly can every time.  And tonight he laid out his method.  As you saw, he is passionate about the transformations that take place in our dogs when WE are the pack leaders.  He has shown that the basis of solving every problem is being the pack leader and the trusting relationship with our dogs that comes from that.

I thought the content was killer.  The production values?  Not so much.  But I really don't care too much that Adina and I were in our garage (really!) and Dan was in his spare bedroom.  This was about answering your questions and giving you as much value as we possibly could.  I think we did that in spades.  Could we cover everything in an hour?  Nope.

And that's why Dan's video site is so helpful.  You can try it out for $1 and watch over 250 videos on all aspects of dog training.  Dan is a full time trainer and has run across most every problem you can imagine.  The best part is he has taped his interaction with these dogs and given us the solution to solve them for ourselves.

So check out his website.  He has given DK members a $1 trial and then $10 off.  This offer is only good until Wednesday night.  Thanks Dan!

LOL!

HaHaHa.

He's right, she would look pretty funny with one of those big ol' doodle noses!  :)

lol JD, yes, it is a "big" black nose.  I think I think of it as little because to me (after being around Lucy) AnnaBelle seems so dainty, so of course I think of her nose that way as well ...

I didn't care for it and got nothing out of it but a  bunch of talking "around" the topic/questions without answereing any of them.   Others felt the same.

there was a bit of talking around at first, but once we got into it he shared a ton of valuble information. I'm not an expert but have been to lots of obedience classes, done a lot of reading and research, volunteered for a dog rescue, and have been an on again off again DK member for about 3 years, and I still learned new things.

Maybe you didn't get a lot out of it because you are already an advanced trainer who already knows every trick in the book.

I'm actually a person that hasn't had success in training my dogs.  I guess I wanted immediate answers and not so much talking and introduction.  My dog is sweet but is wild when she sees people and pulls me down when she's on leash and sees people.   I've been to classes etc. and no one helps with these types of things.   Oddly in class she was very well behaved and didn't go to chase or jump on anyone there in a class full of 12 dogs and their owners!!    I just frustrated that no one can help me with this very annoying issue.  I can't have people come over to my house because she goes nuts with excitement.  She's very happy but cannot be controlled.  I cannot take her anywhere and what she needs is exposure to all situations.  I just can't do it. :(   Very frustrated which is why I was impatient with the lack of answers I recieved last night.   I didn't gain anything from him talking at all.  I'll go to his website and give that a chance.

Well, immediate answers won't fix a thing anyway. You need to do the work, regularly and consistently. If I were you I'd work on being a better pack leader, and perhaps getting your dog more exercise. An hour of full out running and playing every day on top of regular walks. More exercise is pretty much my answer to everything. Tired dogs are good dogs.

The problem is not the dog, it is never the dog. It is entirely up to you how you want your dog to behave, and then you need to learn how to make it happen, and practice practice practice, each and every day.

Very true but not everyone has fenced in or large areas for dogs to run safely off leash and not everyone has the ability to walk long distances. As I mentioned my Millie also pulls and is difficult for me to control without her pulling me down. A more effective solution for me rather than your advice meant for someone more physically able, is to hire a dog walker to insure more walks, which I have done and begins tomorrow. I'm 65 w leg issues so this will be helpful for me and enjoyable for my dogs

Joan,

Yes, the webinar didn't really hit the ground running, did it?  I'll be better next time.  :-)

From what you have just said, I think you could really be helped by the training Doggy Dan offers.  It's easily applicable stuff that makes a big difference when it's all added together.  No matter how physically able you are, it will work.  In fact his no force / no fear methods are the best method available for those who aren't very physical.

Do this:  Get the $1 trial and watch the introductions and the Pack Leader videos.  If it's not valuable to you then cancel and I will send your dollar back out of my own pocket.  Promise.  I'm that certain that you will find it useful.

Cheers!

Clark, how kind of you!!    But there is no need to refund the $1. It was well worth it for me to watch/listen to the 5 Golden Rules.  I think they will be very helpful in working with my Millie.   I wasn't aware until I paid the dollar that I'd be charged monthly $27 (that I just can't afford right now) so I did cancel the remainder of the course.  I hated to do it, but just can't spend right now.

Thanks for taking the time and interest in trying to help me. It's very much appreciated.  I think that there are many who enjoyed the webinar and will continue to enjoy all that Doggy Dan has to offer.

Thanks again,

Joan B :)

The website has good advice on the jumping up problem, grounded in the rules for becoming the pack leader. Once you have the pack leader practices mastered, you will probably benefit from having a friend help with the jumping up training. Good luck.
