My Dixie has just come out of her first collar and I recently perchased a leather one which is seeming to rub her beautiful fur out is there a better option?

I know many here love rolled leather collars for the reason you've given. I personally don't use because they all seem to have buckles which scar me as I imagine it might be difficult to break free in an emergency. I use the 'Ruffwear knot-a-collar' but I warn that your dog could wriggle out of it. But I use it as an identifier to attach her tags to and use a harness otherwise. It settles nicely into her fur. (I must say if I didn't know better I'd think your Dixie was my Maple's twin as a pup!)
Hi there they look really similar!! And thanks for the advise
I will look into both! Maple is gorgeous!

Instead of a flat collar, use rolled leather or 'plastic' i.e. a water collar.  Here is a link to a current discussion: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/puppymadness/forum/topics/collar-...

Our local pet store always has lots of really beautiful cloth collars....so that's what my guys wear.  I change them with the season.

Jane, you are so lucky that your guys can wear cloth collars and you can change them out.  Ned can only wear a cloth collar for a couple of hours before major matting occurs.  Clancy does better but even his shedding coat will mat around collars.  I really wish I had lots of collars to switch out to - but then with the cuts I keep both boys in, they don't show much. :-{

They are very Hansom boys! Thanks i will look as I really dont want her to have a bald neck!
After much research, I bought Wynnie Spindrift collars to prevent mating. They are made from mountain climbing ropes. The following is a brief description from the web site spindriftdog.com

"I wanted a collar to go with my new "Max Walker" leash. After much trial and error, I came up with the idea for the Comfort Collar. By "stuffing" the tubular climbing webbing, I was able to create a super strong, rounded collar that wouldn’t mat my Husky’s thick coat."

More background can be found on the site. Wynnie's fur is never matted and the collar resists odors than can occur with leather rolled collars. I also like the easy to release buckle. As a note, I do not have any financial interest in this company.
