I am soooo excited, we are getting a red mini doodle in the beginning of June from Marcia Mobley in Orlando. ( Bay Lake Doodles) She is 2 yrs old, we decided we didn't want a puppy, and after much research, and many hours on the phone and online and drooling over all your babies, lol, Marcia came thru for us. We are getting her sweet little girl Ruby Tuesday, and she sent us pictures of her yesterday. she is just sooo cute...We are waiting till June, since it is tax season, (hubby is an acc't) and I help out during season. Also then we will be up north for a week, so we will pick her up on our way home. It works out well because she is having a litter of pups in March, and then Marcia is going to have her fixed for us, so she will be able to nurse and then recover from surgery, and be ready for us. We are just so excited!!!!...But I do have a question, we have a 9 1/2 yr old Aussie that is just a sweetheart, we lost his cousin last year from old age, he was 13 1/2, and this guy has been so sad for so long now. He was not the alpha by a long shot, the other dog was, and since it has been a year, any ideas how we should introduce the new baby to our older one? I want them to get along, and I am sure they will, just want to do the right thing for both of them meeting for the 1st time. Thanks in advance for the advice....Cheryl

P.S. I am going be a real doodle member, lol, can't wait !!!

Janie, ty so much for the congrats, I have to learn how to do this picture thing, lol, I am really computer illiterate when it comes to this picture stuff. Marcia sent me an e-mail with pictures, but don't know how to put them on here....Cheryl

Congrats! I would suggest that you introduce the two someplace other than your house; your Aussie might be less likely to be defensive. They can get to know each other a bit, and then when you take them both home it will be as friends.
That is a great idea Nancy, I will contact Marcia and see if it is ok for me to do that....Thanks for the advice...Cheryl
I will do this Ann, and hopefully all will be fine....

This site was helpful to me when we got our second dog! GL....congratulations!!
Thanks, Tamara, I made a copy of it and I will keep it handy...
Congrats!!! Do you have any pictures? I have two dogs, but my dog was young when I got our 2nd dog. I would think since you "had" another dog before you would probably be okay?? I'm sure, as I've seen at my dad's house many times that when introducing a younger dog...the older dog almost becomes "young" again. I'm sure everything will be okay.

As Mary Beth suggested I think the first meeting - away - from the house is a good idea.

Good luck and congrats again!!
Hi Lori, I am hoping that Renny will be like his old self again with the new dog. He used to love to run and play with my other one, so I am hoping that this is what happens...As far as pictures, Marcia sent me an e-mail with pictures of her, but I don't know how to get them on here..Lol, I am totally computer illiterate when it comes to this stuff with pictures....Thanks again for the congrats....Cheryl
Your Aussie will probably take to her very well, especially since she is female and he is male. If you are picking her up on your way home, will the Aussie be with you? He may get a little jealous if you show up after an absence with another dog. But if he is with you, just let him have some time to greet her on his own and get adjusted to the idea of another dog in the family. If he is lonely like you say, it should be no trouble at all.
Hi Lynda, no he is not going to be with us, but he is used to us going away for a week over the years. He is not boarded, he stays home with a dog sitter that we know and have used for years. she sleeps at our house, and she loves him, as much as we do. He is very used to her, and if she can't watch him, he goes back to his breeder to be taken care of. He is really a very well adjusted boy, lol....I am just hoping that he is ok with a female, lol, he really has not been around them, my other one was a male, and he was like his shadow for 8 1/2 yrs....The other one was the alpha, and I never had a days problem, no fights, they even shared their water bowls, and never took food from one anothers bowls. I fed them at the same time from bowls right next to each other....So I am hoping that he will love having a new friend....
