So, Ollie has never really cared about food. He loves his treats, but doesn't care about meal times...he will go a few days without eating much and then clean his bowl for a day or two. Once in a while he will  forget to eat or just not realize he's hungry (I'm not really sure) and throw up because of an empty stomach.

Why does he do this? Is this normal?

Luca doesn't eat all of his food, although he eventually eats some usually in the evening, many times. Some days he eats all of his food in the morning and evening. He doesn't throw up very often at all. So I think it's normal for him. Calla never saw a meal she wouldn't eat : )

It's real bizarre. It's like he doesn't know he needs to eat. He doesn't throw up often anymore, but he did tonight. We have been home all afternoon and night...but did he eat? no. I just put some food in the toy food ball and now after eating a few bites he is suddenly starving and eating all of his food. Weirdo.

Ember is like this too!! I just had to stop worrying about it because she's at the right weight, has plenty of energy, and does eat when she hungry.
I'll be interested to read the other replies!

Ya, Ollie too! He is fine with his energy level, fine on weight (I am pretty sure) and eats a ton for like a day. I just changed his food and for a few days he was pumped and ate it right away! I was so excited...back to normal again.

Jack can go a while without eating. Sometimes if we give him a treat it will spark his appetite and he will eat. He is on the low end of a good weight but my vet is happy.

Molly Rose is just like me, she can eat and eat and won't stop till it is gone no matter what!

This works for Ollie some too. I hate to do it because I want him to eat without having to put a treat in it or giving it to him before he eats, but it's better then him throwing up! Crazy dog.

Camus use to eat his meals, morning and evening, as though there was not going to get another meal.  Now he is picky and often does not eat at all.  I am not worried since he is definitely not underweight.  If he doesn't eat within an hour I pick the bowl up and he will usually eat at the next mealtime.  I am more comfortable with his current eating pattern and think he is eating when actually hungry rather than gobbling down everything.

This is true too, I guess they can throw up either way. He is healthy and it's fine, I just find it odd knowing that he has to be hungry with a completely empty tummy yet still "forgets" to eat. Oh well. He has a good weight and energy level!

Riley is a bit like this too.  In the mornings he shows no interest in eating at all and will sometimes throw up bile.  I play a game to get him started.  Once he has taken a little bit he will realise he is hungry and then eat some.  If we are going to Day Care I really need him to eat before we leave as it's a long day of hard playing. When he comes home he is starving and eats the lot.  Treats are no problem at all lol  I think he is fine and I am trying not to get hung up at all.

That's the exact same as Ollie. Once he remembers, he eats away! It's so funny, treats he cries over lol So I know he likes to eat!

Sully used to be this way too. We have 3 dogs, 2 of which would eat Sully's food if he were to walk away. We give him 15 minutes and then take it away if he hasn't eaten. The only thing that I have found that has worked consistently is to add a tablespoon of canned dog food and a splash of warm water to the kibble and stir it. I like the canned Taste of the Wild or Evo because of it's consistency. Sully went from not eating to being the first one in the kitchen for meals.

I thought about trying a little wet food...I was just hoping the food switch would do it and it did for a few days lol
