It's Spring in the air, (not the temperature), and we have lots of thawing going on in our yard where our Doodles run and play.  Well, our Sydney is ripping out the few pieces of grass we have left from the tough summer and trecherous winter.  She is chomping on the dirt.  Why, why, why is Sydney enjoying the dirt so much when we just finished giving the Doodles a great dinner followed by a raw carrot and fat free plain yogurt.  YIKES!!!!!!!!!!

Our Fudge rarely eats mud. Vern is another story. Yesterday, Fudge was determined to eat any mud that fell off our shoes. She would not quit and that is not like her at all. I have no clue :)
Worms? (in the dirt that is)
Oh, yes, Adina, you are so on the mark!!!!!!   Worms......the previous owners of our house had lots of plants and flowers which made the soil very rich.  That sure makes sense.  The soil must have lot of worms and they are waking up after the long cold winter!
That's always my first guess because it was a problem with my dogs in the Spring.  One area of our lawn was sodded the rest seeded.  The sodded area was under more shade and always more moist.  Hence worms and dogs that dug with their snouts.
Or truffles!
That's it, Mud Pies and Truffles!  Work up your appetites this afternoon, girls!
Hey, as an afterthought, maybe escargot (worms - yuck!) for Doodle Moms!  We prefer a French Restaurant.  But not in our Doodle life!!!!!  We are spending far too much on our Doodles!
I've started to wonder if Luna has a taste for lawn grubs... because the previous owner of our house took ZERO care of the lawn and Luna keeps ripping up the grass and munching on the dirty root areas.

Oh, Boy!  We think Sydney is related to Luna.  Maybe they have something in common!

Haha, maybe!

Luna is obsessed with sticks, grass, dirt and plants in general.  We are learning in basic obedience now how to combat her very strong prey drive too.  She even stalks me sometimes when we're playing!  Maybe she's part cat...

She was digging when we picked her out, I think it's hard wired into her brain :p

Yeah I've read about pica (eating non-food items) in people and dogs.  It's very strange and sometimes it turns into a compulsive thing and not at all related to nutrition!

Well, we're not crazy about dirt so what's that all about with our Doodles.  We are trying to figure out how we can get our yard in shape for the spring.  Very tough with our Doodles, since they love to run, play ball and wreck our lawn in the yard!  We are trying to figure out how Canine Grass can work into our budget???
