Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi All:

I am wondering if our Dood might have "wry mouth". Our Goldendoodle puppy is 9 months and one side of lower jaw bone is much larger than the other. We noticed a lump on his jaw about month ago, but it seems even larger now than then and the lower jaw bone on the other side is much smaller and more even....What is going on? We visited the vet a few weeks ago for a thorough check up and she didn't notice/mention anything.... I am thinking we need to re-visit. I did a little research on his symptoms and something came up called "wry mouth"... I am hoping this is not his issue and that it won't be that severe, but it seems like it could be... Any advice or experience with this issue in your doodles? I could use any encouragement or help I can get right now... Our sweet little guy doesn't seem to notice, however, he is NOT a big eater... We have to make him eat and now we are wondering if this problem is connected somehow to that issue.. He has no prob gripping things in his mouth, balls, bully sticks, water bottles, etc... Help and prayers are needed... Thanks for reading this everyone...

Poor guy! I have never heard of this, but I hope he gets to live a long happy life, with or without this wry mouth!

A "wry mouth" is one iteration of a bad bite.  It can have long term consequences if the teeth wear incorrectly or if the dog has trouble eating.  Otherwise it is a cosmetic issue and I would not seek to correct it with expensive orthodontic work.     I would definitely call your breeder to tell her, though.  Bites are very much genetic and breeders need to be aware if they are producing dogs with poor bites.

All that said, I would have any lump checked out.

I think you definitely need to revisit your vet or perhaps even a veterinary dental specialist.
I am so sorry to hear this. Please keep us updated.
Whatever this is I do hope it is nothing too serious.  I will look out for updates and keep fingers and paws crossed.

I never heard of that but Myla has teeth issues, the vet classified it as a major underbite, but she also has a tooth on the bottom that jets out the opposite way so her mouth is never actually closed. The problem we have is because it is mainly always open , she has bad breath and plaque/tartar build up fast. She chews a little differently never any huge issue. So the vet wrote a note and our breeder reimbursed us half the price or we could return her! No way! So he paid us and we wanted him to know about it (I think he already knew) and he said if she has tohave major work done he would "help" with those bills, so far she's ok. If she needs a specialist he is in OshKosh not too close to us but that's where we will have to take her. She just got her teeth cleaned about 2 months ago  and now they are all brown again. She barely tolerates me brushing her teeth.

Hope it's not too serious-good luck and keep us posted!

thank you for this reply.  I hope Myla's issue doesn't worsen and only gets better! What a great breeder to give you half your money back and offer to help! How long after you purchased her did you discover the teeth issues?

There could be an infection in the Saliva gland.  Keeping fingers and paws crossed that it is nothing serious.

Boy - wish we knew more about this.  All we can do is send love and prayers.  Definitely take him back to the vet - see if they have a dental specialist.  Keep us posted and good luck!

I would go back to your vet...definitely. Or try a new vet if you are not confident in yours.

I am hoping it is nothing!  good luck and keep us posted.

If you don't have pet insurance, I would get it BEFORE you go to the vet about this problem. Just in case! Good luck!
goodness, I have never heard of this. Boy these doodles of ours are complicated. i really hope he is ok.
