Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I haven't been on this site for awhile so I thought I would give it a try. We have two doodles. We have Bailey who is 5 years old and is a goldendoodle and we have Logan who is 3 and he is a Labradoodle. Bailey has allergy issues with a lot of things but mainly it is with carbs. He became very yeasty many ear infections darkened groin and little sores on his back. The vets really couldn't help, their solutions were antibiotics and steroids. This we will never do since it starts you in the endless cycle of yeast growth which is what we found to be the real problem.

He is free of yeast today and has been for 2 years now. We have a holistic vet and we treat and care for our dogs holistically. We follow parts of the regiment that applies to our dogs.

Send me  line either here or to my email at gregmpyles@msn.com and I will be happy to help you.

It is hard to believe any vet worth his fee would recommend antibiotics or steroids for what was really a yeast infection. Perhaps other thing were going on.

You are right. Our Bailey gets ear infections which are caused by yeast. Vets will treat ear infection with antibiotics and steroids. His were not bacterial but from a yeast growth. Fyi

Well since ear infections are caused by either yeast or bacteria that makes sense. But antibiotics for a yeast infection do not. Cleaning regularly with and acidic ear cleaner helps prevent yeast infections.

The best way to prevent yeast is to stop what is causing it. Mainly yeast is coming from within the dog and comes out through the skin. The root cause is usually too many carbs in the dogs diet which turns into sugar which in turn feeds the yeast. Wiping the skin only puts a band aid on the problem. The causes must be addressed.

This is pure nonsense. Yeast is ubiquitous on the skin in humans and dogs. It does not come out through the skin. I was afraid this was where you were heading. Please show me any scientific backing for this and not some hokum website.

I am sorry you feel that way. With the internet and many tools available to us we should all be educated in how our bodies work. Go to YouTube and search for yeasty dog. There are many videos that may educate you.

F doesn't need the internet to be educated in how our bodies work. She is an MD.

Really. YouTube videos, recorded by any one are how to get educated? I guess being a board certified pathologist has left me with no knowledge of scientific causes of illness. I am always willing to learn new things but please do try to educate me with scientifically based things. You are free to believe whatever you choose but please do not try to spread misinformation here.

If you are a MD then you should not have a problem researching yeasty dog on YouTube. These are vets trying to educate the public. The first video you come across is a Dr.and she has a very big following.

Believe it or not many of the biggest quacks are popular on the internet.

I agree with F 100%. Although all I have is a master's degree in physiology, not an MD. :)

I'll bet I know who the vet in the video is without even looking. Does she by any chance have the same first name I do?
