Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I thought it would be fun to create a discussion where we all share our favourite dog treat recipes, or dog treat recipe books or websites.

I am putting together a dog treat recipe book to raise funds for a dog rescue I am volunteering with. The only problem is this:

I thought maybe if we all share, we all benefit (well, the dogs do) and we are contributing to a good cause. Perhaps once I pull it together, I could share it with DRC if they are interested in using it.

My guys happen to be a fan of anything with Pumpkin or peanut butter in it. Since I'm not a big baker, I often just make the recipe up as I go. Lucky for me dogs are not as picky eaters as people are. Here's a fun recipe that combines their two favourite things together: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/peanut-butter-and-pumpkin-dog-treats/

I would love to hear from the DK community on your favourite recipes (or even fun and interesting store bought treats that we could replicate). The best part for my doodles is that they get to be the taste tester for all the recipes. This makes them two very very happy doodles!

Hi Sherri,

Nice to see  you out there again.  How's the skunk?  :)

You may want to start here to gather information.  Lots of good stuff right here in the DoodleKisses Cookbook

As soon as I can, I'll write my revised recipe for Spud's Cookies here in your discussion.

Hi Joanne, nice to see you too. they still smell a bit but I haven't seen our skunk friend in a while. :) Thanks for pointing me to the group. I didn't know about it. I'll have a look :)

It so happens that the DRC is putting together a fundraiser cookbook and is looking for recipes, both for humans and for canines.

Libby's mom Robin is putting it together. Here's her page: http://www.doodlekisses.com/profile/RobinSolomon?xg_source=profiles...

Cool! Great minds think alike :) I will reach out to Robin. Thanks!

The only one we use on a regular basis is sweet potatoes (nothing else with them) which we dry with the dehydrator.  We make them small and dry until they are very krispy.  They come out as doggie potato chips, keep in an air tight container and the boys love them.   Cookbook is a great idea, I'd buy one.

cool, sounds yummy. I will have to add a page on dehydrators to the book. Thanks!

There's a whole discussion on dehydrator recipes in TFG, too.

We also dehydrate sweet potatoes (grow them specifically for the dogs) and apples.  Meg's first tricks were learned by tempting her with dried apples.

I would have never thought of apples. Thanks Judy!

I make cookies with liver, spelt flour, cheese, eggs and blueberries and a little sunflower oil. I will have to make them again soon to let you know the exact quantities as I do it by feel. We are due to do another batch this week. I will get back to you then. I think this recipe could be adapted to add all sorts of other ingredients. I may do it with sweet potato and peanut butter.  You need recipes for oven drying too as not everyone has a dehydrator. I'm sure it can't be difficult.Check out our food group here as I know there are recipes there.

Thanks Nicky. That is the hard part for me to because I make biscuits by feel instead of following a recipe. I'm not good at measurements. It would be great if you could do so. I could make my pumpkin mint and flax cookies and share those with you as well. :)

I will try to do it sometimes this week.  You could also have a section of stuffing for Kongs. I use baby food and all sorts of mixtures which I freeze.
