Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all!!
I am 58 1/2 :) and we just got a F1B goldendoodle puppy, Lilly. Was wondering how many over 50 got new puppies and how it changed your life. Right now the change is less sleep and puppy teeth marks.

hi. you are still young:) I think I would wait until one of you retires or has a good support system to watch the baby during the day until he/she is old enough for doggy day care. We have had Lilly for 8 months. we got her when she was 8 wks old. I stay at home so that was good. She has brought so much joy in our life. Scott still works and when he comes home..Lilly is all over him and he is just all smiles. we have always had rescue dogs until Lilly. Yes, she was expensive and eats expensive food. but the kids are off the payroll so it is worth it.. I love the fact that she doesnt shed and is such a smart, sweet dog. If you want an older dog I would contact your local doodle breeders about older dogs and rehoming. hang in there..
My husband is 63, and I am 57. He works full time+ and I work part time. Having 2 dogs has always been just right for us. We had Beagles in the past and they were great companions for each other and wonderful for us. They love their humans! We have 2 mini Goldendoodles now (2 1/2 and 1 1/2 years, respectively.) Again, they keep each other entertained and occupied, and are very playful with each other. With them being smaller, they are easy for us to handle, lift,etc.... when we are both gone to work, they have each other. It works well. It would be ideal if you worked part time, but if that is not possible, there are people who come in to walk dogs during the day, and/or a doggy day care would be very workable, once they are old enough and have had their shots. I know it is a commitment, and expensive. My husband has a stressful job...there is no therapy like the greeting he gets when he walks through the door at night!!!!! Good luck with your decision!
