I did want to chime in on some of the comments I read below! I see a lot of people have had issues with Judy. Everything from her not returning calls/information to her misleading you about what puppy you are getting! I will say this; I am like everyone on here. I have had a very bad experience with her.  During the visit I was so impressed with her location and facility’s. All the puppies seemed so sweet and nice. After this we were VERY specific about what dog we were looking for. Everything from being Multi-gen to the color, to wanting a large 50lbs or greater puppy. She told us that she had a littler coming in a few months and they would be perfect for what we were looking for.

Once the litter was born we asked many questions about this littler and all we got was half answers. I should have known then that something was wrong. It was almost as if she was too busy to really pay attention to our questions and concerns. But we put faith in her that she was just busy and moved forward with getting the puppy. We asked if we could visit the puppy prior to the 2 month stage and she informed us this was not allowed. So we waited till she was 2 months old and came to pick her up! We noticed that she was very small for her age but they informed us this was standard and she would become a very large dog. Somewhere in the 55lb range. We were so excited and in love with our new family member.

   Long story short our puppy is not what Judy told us she would be. There were many issues at hand some with health of the puppy and others with the size. The first is more about being lead and told one thing and receiving something else. As other on here have stated she has been doing this for over 50 years, so I do expect her to be the expert in the field. I know that no one can ever be 100% sure on how a dog will turn out, but when you spend that type of money I think they should have a pretty good idea of what they are getting. That is one of the reasons some people go to breeders vs. going to a shelter. It gives you the understanding that you know what you are getting. Well long story short, she is not going to be near the 55lb range but more in the high 20lb range. Maybe break 30 if we are lucky. What a difference a 30lb swing is a lot.  On top of this we had some health issues that have been very costly. Some that could be due not enough food when she was born, and poor cleanliness of the faciltiy.

            When I reached out to Judy, at first she did not want to reply, but she finally did and her only response is to return the puppy. As anyone on here knows you love your puppy, she is a member of the family and you would never give her up for the world! But to mislead people for money is very sad!

            I still see myself as very lucky because I have the best puppy, sweetest puppy, and she loves to give lots of kisses.

Hello.. We have Lila. She is a 6 month old Labradoodle born June 5th 2012. She is the love of our life and the sweetest thing in the world. I would Love to meet any of her siblings.... Her Parents were Hibiscus and Oscar and we got her from Gleneaden! So feel free to reach out if you do have one!

Hi, We just joined the Gleneden Doodles.  We have Cooper, a labradoodle born June 8, 2009.  His dad is Hugo and Mom's Iris.  He's a registered therapy dog.  He's the sweetest and smartest dog ever!  Any siblings out there? We live in Bethesda, MD.  We'd love to hear from you.

I think they're usually in September.  The romp this past September was cancelled because Judy and her husband were celebrating their 50 year anniversary.  She usually sends out an email, or posts the info on the labradoodles.com website.

I heard Judy has "reunions" for her pups.  Does anyone know about this and/or any dates?  I'd be interested in taking my dog back to his roots :)

see our story here:We picked up Ginger from her VA breeder on Dec 4, 2005. She was a spectacular puppy. Her coloring was rich and coat shiny, her temperment was energectic, playful and responsive. We noticed on the 4.5 hour ride home that she seemed to be a bit wet, we figured it was the paper in the cage moving around. We stopped often to let her out & change her bedding.

I then decided to hold her on my lap with a towel for a while. I quickly noticed I was drenched with urine. We asked our vet to look into this problem right away. He quickly diagnosed her with Ectopic Ureters. Her plumbing did not drain into her bladder, it drained into her vagina, and leaked out with no control.

We sent an e-mail and leftr voicemail for Enya & Judy to advise them of our situation - they never returned our calls or emails. My vet explained in very simply terms, we had 3 options: Return her for another puppy, return her for refund or take on the responsibilty and try and help her, knowing we may never see any money from the breeder.

We knew if we returned her she would be put down, and we could not live with that. So we took the high road and decided to help this puppy as best we can. Our Vet was affiliated with Univ. Of Penn Vet School, he told s that were in the process of a clinical trial for this very issue,a nd would have the answers we needed.

After a 1 hour consult with a team of Vets, we decided she would stay for tests, and if our hunch was correct schedule her for laser surgery (and spayed at the same time)

The school borrowed the laser equipement from the manufacturer, and brought ina surgeon that had successfully treated this condition. We were pleased witht the outcome, she was a healthy and smart puppy by the time she was 5 months old.

The road to recovery was hard at times. She wore diapers, and had to be bathed 2 - 3 x's a day to keep the urine off her skin. SHe was a champ jumping in the tub on her own and never tearing off her diaper.

Medication was used for 4years a low dose of PPA every third day to keep her bladder calm. Eventually she was weend off and is now 100% healthy. Well except she is a coocoo dog!

Our out of pocket totalled somewhere around $2000, no reimbursement or concern from our breeder. We hold no grudge, it was a choice we made, not to press the issue. We feel we were meant to be her forever family, and she was meant to be our puppy. We would have had it no other way.

Sorry to hear about your story.  We picked up Kaiya about 3 years ago, and Judy was wonderful.  I'm surprised to hear about your experience.  

 

We did a lot of research prior to selecting Gleneden.  Kaiya is our first and only dog, so we were very new to the process.  We did a visit to Gleneden (May 2008) about 4 months prior to putting down a deposit.  Judy walked us around, talked about the puppies and breading, and answered just about all of our questions.  From there on, we only had a few questions for her, and Judy's turnaround with responses did take a few days.  We didn't mind.  We filled out our application, and in Sept 2008 we heard that she had a puppy for us that met our very selective criteria (Black, mini [<40 lbs], female, F1B).  We set a date in October to pick her up.  Every few weeks, Judy would send us cute pictures of Kaiya.

 

On the day we picked her up in October, Kaiya was groomed in the morning, and they discovered that Kaiya had a prolapsed rectum.  They took her to the vet, fixed her up, and Judy offered to either give us a different puppy, or pay our vet bills for any additional care.  It wasn't a big deal for us, and certainly not a deal breaker.  We took Kaiya home, and brought Kaiya to our vet the next day.  The vet said that everything was healing nicely, but Kaiya did have Coccidia (a parasite).  Our vet wasn't very surprised, and prescribed Kaiya some meds.

 

Kaiya is a phenomenal dog, and couldn't ask for anything more.  She ended up being 31 lbs, easy-to-train, is a registered Therapy Dog, is getting ready for her first agility trial, loves to play ball, frisbee, and run with us, and is a great little snuggle dog.

 

We're hoping that Judy is still breeding labradoodles when it's time for our next.

Please think carefully before buying a puppy from Gleneden.  The comments below about the owners' unresponsiveness barely scratch the surface about  the problems there.  We bought our dog 6 years ago.  Zoe had pneumonia; she recovered after hospitalization.  I thought Gleneden would want to know so they could inform the families who bought her littermates. They ignored me except to say they weren't responsible for vet bills and I could bring her back if I wanted to.

I've met several people since then with much the same story.  Gleneden knows that once you bring the puppy home, you won't bring it back.  I believe they just want to make as much  money as possible and have little or no regard for the health of the dogs.  In addition to the pneumonia, Zoe has hip dysplasia, a sign of poor breeding stock management.  Ask your vet to check your dog.

I know that many of you have had better experiences and I'm glad of that.  Zoe is a beautiful and wonderful dog.  But I feel that Gleneden took advantage of my lack of knowledge, and I worry about the puppies and breeding dogs there.  So please, if you hear any warning bells, get your questions resolved before you pay any money or take a puppy home, or walk away and find a better breeder.

I'm sorry your experience was similiar to ours.  I'm sure it is very difficult to predict size and colors but she's been doing this for almost 20 years?!  She should know her breeding dogs and previous litters.  I agree ...20 pounds is a BIG difference.  I seem to have it in the opposite direction as you.

There was also lots of confusion as to who the father was.  First she was saying Oscar....then when we picked him up (after 5 hour car ride each direction) she said it was Simba (who is only 25 lbs).

Quincy is turning out to be the BEST dog ever.  He is soooo easy and we just love him to pieces.  I just wish Judy would have said he's not exactly what you wanted but he will be GREAT for your family.  I would have totally accepted that based on all her years of breeding and expertise.

btw, Finnegan is a real cutie pie!  I think Quincy will end up with coloring just like him.  I see lots of cream coming in.

Thanks for the responses.  I guess my unhappiness is that I put a deposit down in January for a mini multi-gen labradoodle.....(my son has allergies that I was concerned about)

A few days before we picked up our puppy Judy said she looked over my application and noticed I wanted a mini.....the male in this litter we were getting is trending larger....do we still want him?  Of course, as we already fell in love with him.

Well at 12 weeks old he is already 20 pounds....trending more like a standard!

And I just learned he is an F1B not even a multi-gen.  So I feel like I over paid $600.00 for what we got and now Judy won't even return my phone calls!

What's up with that?!

I'm really disappointed and upset at this time as we didn't get what we paid for and asked for.
