Hey all! We were just hoping some of you could recommend a good groomer for us in the Seattle area. We've been through about 5 groomers thus far & regardless of how much I elaborate to the groomer what he SHOULD look like...he always looks funky when we pick him up! Even funkier after I get him home & try to fix his new do!
I'm not in your area (other side of WA) but since you've been through FIVE groomers and all seemed to make him look funky to you. Can you describe what you mean by funky? What did you ASK for and what did the groomers deliver? Any pictures?
Hey Adina! Well, the past 2 groomers have done the exact same thing....We asked them to take his coat down to about 1" all over. Which both groomers did. But, they also both left his ears long (those now resemble a cocker) and for some reason neither groomer trimmed his tail even though we did specifically request they do. Every groomer he's ever been to cuts his muzzle like a terrier. The part down the middle with just a blunt straight across cut. They also have completely SHAVED the ridge of his nose several times. I tired to trim his tail but that now looks awkward too! So, all of these things considered...he looks funky. Part cocker, terrier, poodle and even lab. He doesn't even remotely resemble the expensive Australian Multi-Gen Labradoodle we purchased! I did bring pictures to the past 2 groomers but I can't imagine they even peeked at them!
Isn't that frustrating! Why can't groomers act like people stylists and just give the requested haircuts. I can see why some shave a dog completely when matted...but not when they just ignore requests.
Check out our grooming group for suggestions...you might be better off doing it on your own...AND save money :)
I normally ask for the number one comb and teddy bear cut. Be sure to state firmly not to groom like a poodle, they always want to leave that stupid poodle top knot so tell them the hair should be the same length all over including the head. The number one comb leaves the hair one inch all over.
I'll post pics for you. He looked Bichon-ish when blown out but, once I watered him down - perfect - IMO. He also smelled nice without being overpowering like someone bathed him in Old Spice. :)
Max is a mini chocolate LD. He is 8 months old and weighs 19 pounds. I asked for 2 inches all over with ears cut short. He has a docked tail so there isn't too many options there. She is VERY friendly and takes the time to listen. She takes notes and told me to let her know if I want anything different for the next time. FYI - she is in Mukilteo area and she pet sits, trains and works at www.k-9digs.com (doggie daycare) Max got his first haircut with her this week so, current photos on my page don't reflect her work.
I took this with my camera phone so, it's not looking so great on the big screen. Max being chocolate can reflect light making pictures difficult at times. Plus my kitchen floor has a pattern. I'll take a photo later using my good camera. He is now back to his Rasta curls.
