Wow! Great Shot!

Here's a before/after (crop) image of an action shot I took at the dog park a few months ago. It was taken at 1/1250 sec, f/8.0, ISO 640 at 116mm using a 70-200mm lens. I blurred the background in Photoshop to eliminate some of the distractions in the background. :)
Amazing what some cropping etc. can do.
This looks amazing!
What a great job!! Love the effect. Please share--did you use the gradient to achieve the background blur? I have messed around with that a bit . . .
Thank you! To do this, I created a duplicate layer ... used "Gaussian Blur" on the bottom one... then ERASED areas in the top layer that I wanted to look blurry. If you accidentally erase too much, you can easily use your history brush to bring the original image back in (as long as you haven't resized the image). When you are done, merge the two layers together. Maybe we can start a separate thread sometime on various photo editing techniques. :)
And what again may I ask is the actual post processing program you are using?
Thanks
Uh oh..looks like next assignment is going to be "gradient". What is gradient? In the camera or in Photoshop?
I posted a couple of links to different post processing methods for altering depth of field in my blog on useful links. The first sounds like the process Linda used--Linda, am I close?? The second is the process I have used involving channels and gradients.
Nice blog, Diane! And yes, you're right. I used the first method.

Sue - I use Photoshop CS4 to do all my photo processing/editing. :)
Beautifully done! Oh doodles running are sooo gorgeous!
Oh I just love this picture. I love seeing Doodles in action and just look at the eyes in the middle Doodle!!! Amazing!!
