I thought it would be interesting to see who made the calendars from this group and to see the photos. After all, we did spend some time and energy and we might get ideas for next year. I was fortunate enough to get the cover of the labradoodle calendar with this photo. I only cropped and took some snow off Calla's nose. I never thought about removing Luca's tags and collar :) Please add your calendar photos, including photos you took of other doodles other than your own. congratulations to all.
One thing that I didn't get enough of was full body shots of doodles standing up (vs. lying or sitting or head shots). So, for example, although I believe GBK turned in many excellent shots (really nice ones!) I chose the one I did of Kona because it was one of the few full body shots where the doodle's coat and tail showed themselves off in all their beauty. It seems like when there were full body shots the doodle didn't take up enough of the photo. I liked this cover shot because it was fun. I saw Calla's beautiful coat and Luca was playing peek-a-boo and it looked kind of whimsical...like something interesting was happening.
That's funny. I was trying to figure out the psychology of which photos are chosen and I decided you liked head shots! Well, I guess that was wrong, maybe it's the photographer's who do : ) I did also decide that you liked a touch of whimsy as I do too. Actually, in this shot it was awfully cold but I had a new camera and had to get some shots of the beautiful snow. I was standing partly in the garage and the doodles were on a huge mound of snow left by the plow, doodling around with each other. I called them and voila!
I like head shots too! But, for example, there were a lot of head shots and close ups in the GD calendar and I was getting worried about too much of the same...but those were really nice ones so there they are! The other thing with head shots is the background is less important. A cute, clear, smiling doodle face with good lighting is beautiful! When there's background there's more ways a photo can go wrong.
NOT that I'm any expert at what qualifies at good photography...I just like what I like. And when I wasn't sure and Clark wasn't sure I'd convene with two photography snob friends for advice and direction and sometimes I'd over-rule their thoughts and other times I'd realize they were right.
Well, of ten shots I submitted, only one had a doodle standing in all her glory! after today's grooming you might think I have a different doodle but boy did she need it.
Thanks. Maybe that's why I was able to trim off half a doodle today! Believeme, you wouldn't believe what can hide under all that hair but at least for tonight she's almost, never say completely, mat free. and she has a waist and curvy legs : )
Well now that Natalie is ancient, the puppy is practically trained, and the calendar is done , you can join us here more often and learn about esoteric topics like HDR. WTD? That's what I say but then most of us operate on a more mere mortal plane.
HA to ancient. HA to trained puppies. Actually I'm going to start a discussion on some new photos of Natalie for any tips on primping them up. It's time for the Natalie calendar for grandparents!
Yes, whimsy is nice. Something 'happening' in the photo is nice...even in a still shot. Douglas had several nice photos but I chose the one I did because the rest were all naturey...and this was him smiling in an urban area and I thought that was fun and colorful.
Penny's head shot chewing on the ball was FUN. A doodle goofily enjoying a good ball, smiling, and a good photo at that.
Gracie, although a posed shot, was incredibly pretty and the colors and props really looked NICE. Sometimes they can seem really forced, but this was just plain pretty.
So it may be because it was whimsical, or happy, or fun, or goofy, or just really beautiful/pretty.
