Everything was working just fine until I recently recharged its battery.  I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the battery, that's just the only 'new' thing.  Now all of a sudden it doesn't focus...even on automatic.

At least not up close.  It's fine at a distance.  Doesn't matter the setting.   HELP?  What can I tweak on it?

Take out the battery, inspect it for anything weird, shine a flashlight into the battery cavity in the camera, make sure there is nothing in there blocking the battery contacts. Re-install the battery.
MAKE SURE THE CAMERA IS OFF when you take out/put in the battery, always. You can really mess it up if you don't.
Also while the camera is off, take off your lens, CAREFULLY point camera body with opening down towards floor, give it a little tap, make sure nothing got in there. Check your lens mount area carefully, no obstructions, etc. Make sure when you put the lens back on that it is mated properly, and clicks completely back into place. If it's not on right the camera won't focus. Check the lens itself - most have a little switch on them for manual focus vs. autofocus. I know I've accidentally knocked mine to manual focus before myself.
If it's not the switch on the lens, might be the autofocus lock on the camera itself? I'm not sure about Canon....get out your book or google search about the autofocus lock on your model camera, maybe you accidentally pushed or knocked the button on, even if you don't remember doing it. Hope that helps. Keep me posted. Of course, now is the perfect time to mention that's why I love NIKON :) hehehehehe
I'm not sure I understand the battery part. Either the camera is getting power or it's not so I can't think this is a problem. The manual vs. autofocus switch seems likely, though. It is important to turn off the camera when taking anything on or off, battery, memory card etc.
Is there a manual focus on the lens? If so, that might be the problem. I accidentally switched this twice when I changed lenses - now I know what to check when it won't focus.
Does this mean you tried to submit an assignment Adina? If so, brava.
I plead the 5th :)
Uh oh.
Adina--Crazy things happen--even to Nikons! I did a firware upgrade for my Olympus (you can do these online through you camera brand homepage) and I SWEAR, my camera has never worked right since!! Do try all that Mandy says and if you still have problems, you may want to reset the camera to restore its factory settings. There is a reset function somwhere on your camera. See your users manual or you can search for instructions online . . . And I just saw that Larry already suggested this--let us know if it works!
It WAS the auto/manual focus switch.  PHEW!  Thanks Mandy!  I'm so annoyed as I kept trying to get a nice pic of my friend's 5 day old infant and I could not.
Adina, I did this twice at really important times. It is not a button that is easily seen.
Wow, this is really cool. I love having this group. Where else could Adina have gone to get such a speedy answer? To the camera store but can you imagine having to get the baby ready, buckle her into the car, take the stroller, secure the Doodle and driving in traffic to the camera store...then find a parking place, unbuckl the baby, get the stroller out and set it up, insertthe baby...it goes on and on...just to get a quick answer like she got right here on DoodleKisses!!! Gotta love this group!!!!!
I do and I love the Garden group too. Imagine combining 3 interests in 1 place with great companions. I don't know all that much about photography but I really like it, don't know that much about doodles but I truly love mine and I know a fair amount about gardening and love that. How fortunate to be able to combine them here. I will accept all kudos for these 2 groups : )). Now if only I could get a garden helper life would be peachy. A typist wouldn't be bad either. A chef....
Yes, kudos to you for sure!!! What other fun groups can you think of??
