HELP with my Canon Rebel EOS!

Everything was working just fine until I recently recharged its battery.  I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with the battery, that's just the only 'new' thing.  Now all of a sudden it doesn't focus...even on automatic.

At least not up close.  It's fine at a distance.  Doesn't matter the setting.   HELP?  What can I tweak on it?

I will try to think of some but I think I've run out of significant interests. I haven't read a real book in months, I'm ashamed to admit. Too busy with life and DK. Besides a book group would be a real stretch. So I guess it's your turn, I'll join: )
