January Assignment Different Perspectives.

Happy New Year all. Do you realize this is the beginning of our 3rd year and we have 334 members? Loads of photos under the bridge to mix metaphors. By a slim margin from our few responses it seems the vote is for different perspectives this month. Pictures taken at ground level, from a dogs perspective, up, down you name it because in the end we all enjoy seeing good, interesting or different things. For a change I actually started this today. I'll put some photos in a reply since I'm sure you get tired of seeing the same thing on every page and it takes up response room.

These are incredible shots,,,,especially the sunset and the starfish. Nancie, would you mind sharing what lens you used and what your settings were for each shot? If that's too much of a pain, I understand....it just might help us all!

Thanks Jane. I have to admit though that I did do some post processing. For the Starfish I used a polarizer filter because I was shooting into the water. My settings were: manual, f/11, ss1/20, ISO 100, White Balance-Cloudy, Spot Meter and Tripod. The Starfish that had no green in the scene was the same except the ss was 1/10. Because the polarizer filter underexposes the photo I had to "brighten" it up in PS. The sunset was: f/20, 1/125, ISO 800, Center-Weighted Metering, all filters off (even UV or Skylight), tripod. I did play around with this a bit with some filter software. Also, if you are using a tripod and have lenses that have VR, you always need to turn it off! But, remember to turn it back on when your shoot is over and you are handholding.

Nancie, These photos are stunning. I thought "pearls!" as soon as I looked at the starfish picture. The color in the first one in really interesting. It almost looks like you manipulated it. Really nice. The sunset is breathtaking.

The starfish was a real find. I am so use to seeing the traditional orange ones so this one was pretty special. It was the only starfish to be found. I bet in the sun it would have been spectacular!
