FYI: I recommend buying/using two smaller cards rather than on big card (ie, two 4GB cards over one 8GB) in case the card goes "bad." When I'm shooting an important event I take/use several cards so that I don't have all my eggs in one basket, so to speak. Heaven forbid you go to erase one image and accidentally erase EVERYTHING on the card. My friend took a tour of several vineyards in Italy and deleted ALL of his photos when he was going thru them the night before coming home. (GASP!) Can you imagine?!
Also keep an eye on the write speed of the card. Eventually you may get to the point that you are taking more FPS (frames per second) than your camera can write to your memory card. Your camera can only write images to the memory card as fast as the card allows.....better to buy a couple higher speed smaller cards than one big card....you can always swap out cards if need be.
Most lower-level DSLR's can do 3 or maybe 4 FPS, I think...bigger DSLR's like mine can do 8FPS or more!
Yep...sort of...ask when you buy them. You want the newest ones out which are high speed. Sans Disk I think does the Ultra II for example. I am using in my new camera the eFilm Pro SD HC Class 6 4GB which is eFilm's high speed. All the camera stores can tell you what to look for. With our fancy new cameras I think it would be best to stay with the high speed. Also, like Linda said, better to have two cards and not put all of your trip or outing on one card. Something can always happen to make a card go bad...Hungary perhaps...thought that was user error!!!
Thanks.I ordered one last night and I think I'll get another soon. I did decide to go for the highest speed. At this point if it's not the supermarket, pet store or home depot, it's probably an online purchase for me. I find you can "read all about it", compare prices and save time--well, maybe not the last cause I do get caught up in my online searches. I love getting the packages and I rarely pay shipping.
